From a quiet modest contribution of lump sum amounts to daring people to take up the donation challenge every celebrity is doing there a bit to help the flood-ravaged victims of Kerala. In late July, all 14 districts of the God’s own country were placed on high alert resulting in a level 3 calamity that is the calamity of a severe nature. As a result of the interminable rainfall, the gates of 35 dams have been opened and the state witnessed its worst nightmare for the first time in its history.
The entire state came to a halt with waist length water at the airports. Even as the airlift operations continue to take place the death toll has gone beyond 400 people along with thousands of the people being displaced and living in the Army Shelters. While the rescue operation continues, the water levels have begun to recede but the after-effects of the devastating floods will take a long time to restore the normalcy in the state. It is in times of such natural or man-made calamities that you get to see a different side in most of the human being. People from every state in India as well as neighbouring countries did whatever possible to help the flood-ravaged state. Indeed, it is an instance of the fact that the often doubted humanity still exists. This goes out not only for the people who came forward to help but also the people of Kerala who are fighting this terrible situation with a selfless daunting spirit and attitude and helping other fellow victims in spite of being in a worse situation themselves. Just like there is a difference between texting over WhatsApp and calling or meeting people personally similarly there is a difference in donating cheques and going out there to help the victims. And making a difference are two celebrities from Hindi and Malayalam cinema, who made their presence felt with their aid by being there for the people.
Tovino Thomas, a young model turned actor in the Malayalam film industry, extended his helping hand by allowing the entry of the flood victims into his house in Irinjalakkuda and providing them with basic amenities until the flood gets under control. Randeep Hooda, the famous Sarbjit actor, went a step further by volunteering for Khalsa Aid to do his share of work in the state itself so as to rehabilitate the people affected by flood in whatever means possible. As per news reports, he commuted between the relief camps set up in Kochi and Alleppey to witness the ground reality. Even though most of the Bollywood celebrities sent loads and tons of relief items in whatever manner they could to the people, the contribution of these two actors definitely gives them an edge over others. It is high time we should learn the lesson and take care of our environment before nature teaches in its own way. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, all of us should stand in support of the people of Kerala, stand for humanity and help each other at least to restore the normal life.
