Beaten. Broken. Brutalized. All of which happened to an innocent pit bull found in a concerned neighbor’s lawn. The rescued puppy was found in a terrible condition, and there is no chance that it was an accident. This puppy named Kasey lost half of her face, and the ability to walk on her back legs. Isn’t it sad to hear about the horrible things that are done to animals? The cruelty from humans is the reason pit bulls and other dogs become violent. Every kind of animal deserves love, and there is a huge amount of stray pit bulls that need homes. Pit bulls should not be denied a home; instead they should be in a safe and loving environment.

All humans are created equal, so shouldn’t all types of dogs be treated equally. Pit bulls are in a controversy of whether or not they should be allowed a home. Well to make sure, let’s take a closer look at the statistics. If a pit bull is being abused, then it has no power. This effect creates a threatening feeling toward the dog. Also keep in mind that it is not only abusing that causes aggressiveness, according to K. Enos, she suggests prohibiting your dog to run freely in the streets, and to avoid harsh training. You have the power to limit the freedom of the dog, and depending on how you use it can also affect the dog. You don’t have to be hurting the dog for it to turn out aggressive, there are other ways. Pit bulls can be a bigger responsibility and must be treated carefully.

Pit bulls are being discriminated against other breeds, and this is because we only see what the media shows. Can you believe that the dog that resembles a fluff ball has more attacks than a pit bull? In the article, Pit Bull Discrimination- A People Problem, the author Elana Pisani states, “During that 36-year period, only 0.0012 percent of the estimated pit bull population was involved in a fatal attack. Compare that to the purebred Chow Chow, which has a fatal-attack rate of 0.005 percent, and consistently ranks as the least child-friendly dog breed on the market.” The media may over exaggerate on pit bulls, but numbers don’t lie. This being said, Pit Bulls are not the most deadly dog, and they have a very low attack rate. Also what some people do not know is that Pit Bulls are very helpful and friendly pets. This brings out the importance of knowing the facts before making a judgment.

On the other hand, if owners can’t treat the pit bulls the right way, then why should they be kept as pets when they are only to be harmed? There are a countless amount of abuse stories which lie in the internet about owners leaving their pets paralyzed, broken, or even dead. It would also be better if owners didn’t keep breeding the dogs when there are already enough in the streets. Owners know the consequences, yet still break the rules. That being said, people shouldn’t be allowed to have pit bulls at all, if you can’t treat them right than you shouldn’t be able to own them. However, not all pit bulls and owners are terrible, and there are many examples of owners and pit bulls working together and loving each other unconditionally.

In conclusion all pit bulls need a home, and not all owners should be punished for the wrong doings of other heartless people. Dogs were breaded as pets, and to prohibit pit bulls from homes would release a tremendous amount of dogs into the wild. Many dogs are aggressive because of certain inhumane actions; but it’s actually not the pit bulls fault. Even though these dogs are usually targeted, the innocent puppies should still be allowed a caretaker and a nice home. With that being said, pit bulls should never be beaten, broken, or brutalized.
