Upskilled Education Scholarship: Why I Deserve This Scholarship

I am in need of financial assistance in order to study in my most admired field, Data Science. I had struggled to complete my first degree in Nigeria due to low family income. I have taken an internship as a software developer in order to acquire more knowledge in the field of computer science and I have decided to further my education in this field; awarding this scholarship would further motivate me to pursue academic excellence. As a migrant recently settled in Australia, I just got admission into the University of New England to study Data Science. I chose Australia because this country is among the top 5 countries with international students, moreover from different racial and ethnic minorities students. I came to Australia with my wife and children. Meanwhile, I am working 25 hours per week as an intern software developer to support myself and my family. However, with the high cost of studying, I am facing more challenges in financial need. As someone who has a flair for programming and data analysis, I wish to spend more time on my major coursework subjects because these courses are cores of my major and future career.

Since I was seven, my parents pressed me to value education because they were born in a remote area and had limited access to education. Because of this disadvantage, I vowed to take everything I do serious and put in all my effort to complete tasks such as becoming well-groomed in computer programming during my spare time by reading programming books in the library. I will love to have a formal degree in the Computer Science field because that is my passion. I learned to become a good role model by teaching my friends and younger family members proper manners and guiding them in their academics so that they can do well and excel in their chosen field. Through the successes of my efforts, I also comprehended that poverty was just a societal limitation. I was low-income, not poor. I was still successful in the community, leading faith-based activities and taking an active role in community service. My low-income status was not a barrier but an initiation pack to encourage and boost my success.

Asides from being a programmer, I am truly passionate in the field of Data Science. I always wanted to take my PhD in Machine Learning a branch in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With every industry looking to Apply AI in their domain, studying machine learning will open world of prospects for me to develop cutting edge machine learning applications in various verticals – such as image recognition, medicine, face recognition, or cybersecurity. Study Data Science will provide me with the required knowledge and practical skills to analyze and manage data. I will learn how to deal with large and diverse data sets and apply a variety of technologies to extract meaning from them. This course will prepare me to solve complex and challenging problems in science, health, business and beyond, through a combination of engaging coursework subjects and a comprehensive capstone project experience and open my way to do research in Machine Learning an area in Artificial Intelligence.

In the future, I wish to become a data scientist, business intelligence analyst, data engineer, data architect, data strategist, healthcare data managers, bioinformatics analyst, computational scientist or research scientists. I am documenting as much as I can, and I have already completed 2 notebooks with computer projects I will like to solve in order to help my community. I have also developed many web applications as well as mobile applications. I have even got an app on the play store for learning English vocabulary which has more than 20,000 downloads and has helped people who were from different background to learn some English vocabulary and I believe I am going to accomplish great things in the future. I am dedicated to succeeding no matter what, but nowadays it is becoming tougher and tougher because I have to save every penny and worry about money almost all the time. I fear that instead of pursuing my dream, I will have to settle for a low paying job simply to survive and help out my family. But I don’t want to postpone my studies and wait until I hit jackpot. I don’t want to put my future on hold.

I deserve this scholarship because of my hard work, dedication, fantastic scores, and my ‘I will do’ attitude. I promise I will make this money go a long way and continue with my efforts to make the world a better place. If I received a little bit of financial help, it would be so much easier for me to go through the course and become somebody. Based on my principles, interests, and planned future, I am applying for the Upskilled Education Scholarship because not only will it financially help me, but it can give motivation for me to academically push myself.
