My Summer Internship Project at KPMG, Bangalore was one that truly enriched my practical knowledge and allowed me to apply my theory basics into a corporate workplace. I was given an opportunity to learn about the intricacies of HR and HR Analytics first hand. The overall experience was a very good one and I am very thankful to many to be given such an opportunity. I would like to express my gratitude to them all because without them, none of this would have been possible.
Firstly, I would like to thank our chairman, Prof. J. Philip for making a curriculum so extensive and including the SIP in it. The SIP gave us a glance at the corporate world and prepared us for what was coming our way in future, post completion of course.
I would like to thank my partner at KPMG, Mr. T. S. Subramanian for selecting me for the internship as a student of XIME and giving me an opportunity to work for such a prestigious corporation. I would also like to thank my HR Manager, Mr. Mohit Bhatia, for making my onboarding process so smooth.
I would very much like to thank my Manager, Mrs. Shraddha Roshan for guiding me through every step of my project and for introducing me to the world of HR Analytics. She has imparted a lot of knowledge to me. I would also like to thank my other managers, Mr. Paul Matthew, Mr. Aniruddha Guha and my other colleagues for helping me in times of need, guiding me through every step and suggesting changes as and when required.
I am extremely thankful for my guide, Dr. Deepthi Shanker, whose guidance and cooperation helped me successfully complete the project. A very special mention to Mr. Anand Srinivasan who has made himself available at any hour of the day to help me with tasks I was not familiar with.
The primary purpose of the Summer Internship Project is to give Business school students first hand exposure to the corporate set up. It gives them an opportunity to apply all the theoretical knowledge accumulated over the first year and apply them to practical situations in the workplace. It is also beneficial for the students as it helps them gather insight into how a real organization works and carries out its day-to-day processes.
With this in mind, I did my Summer Internship Project at KPMG Bangalore from 30th April 2018 to 30th June 2018.
KPMG is a Tax, Auditing and Advisory Services firm that currently operates in over 155 countries in the world and has more than 174000 professional working members across the globe. I was recruited into the DART (Data Analytics and Reporting Techniques) Team of the IT Advisory Department.
Currently, HR Analytics is the future of HR. Most companies are looking into it as a scope for better internal operations and People Management Skills. As of now, KPMG has an internal HR Analytics Portal for monitoring employees, their performance and needs. The portal is called ‘ReConnect’. While the usage of this portal has improved the overall HR processes of KPMG, now KPMG wishes to expand its horizons and provide HR Analytics services to other companies. They have a team of excellent professionals building the portal, understanding the needs of other companies, tracking the developments of competitors and innovating their own technology every day.
My work involved my doing research on HR Analytics development across the globe, the future of HR, and understanding the importance of HR in all companies, big or small.
