A: Experience and feeling that I felt seeing Vision in Dark

It was Saturday and all were confused were we are heading towards as it was suspense created for field visit. After the suspense was opened we got to know it was “Blind Peoples Association”

As we reached there we were introduced to the head of the organisation and also to the Dr. and accompanied by 2 faculty prof. Siddharth and prof. Sudhir then we were divided in to the 2 groups where half of the class went for the Vision in Dark and other half went for the campus tour

Firstly I went for the campus tour, it started with the physiotherapy centre were we saw the people coming from outside for the treatment and they have many equipment’s and they also have paediatrician for the children and they also have a Japanese technique of curing which has been specially taught by them

Blind peoples association is the organisation which helps the people who are mentally challenged, have less vision, physical disability for their rehabilitation through promoting education, employment etc. they have many other centres such as computer centre where the people with less vision are made friendly with the computer and they have been taught through voice feature on computers, they make a designs and other things with the help of it than there was beauty centre where the women’s are taught the beautician course for specific period than they small play area for the children where small age kid can play and learn and companies like Vodafone and TCS do recruit people from there . We also saw the printing and press area, manufacturing of furniture, tricycles, metal cupboards etc. all managed by people itself over there and also creativity and tailoring centre where they are taught designing and handmade covers, diya decoration and stuff like that are made and waste out of best are made from the usable clothes. Also there are women’s working with less vision and make excellent food for the outsiders

B: Empathy

Seeing all this I realised how difficult the life is for them, we being provided all the comfort, care and with the perfect body can never be able to understand their problems and what difficulties do they face in their routine, being perfectly born with all the abilities we still complaint to God when something is not according to our will but if we think once and think from their perspective their whole life is in Dark and with disability, what will be their problem, in front of them our problem is nothing

I deeply felt so pity for them at that moment but was helpless, one thing continuous going in mind that why God has done so injustices with them? I wasn’t going for the first time there, I have been there before and also talked to that children and have taught them even and have also listened to their stories that time also felt so bad for them

Particularly I felt most empathised for the blind and disabled people especially born in a poor or lower middle class because what happens is they don’t have enough money for treatment and I have also heard real life stories that being born in poor family, if the child is disabled or blind or mentally challenged they do not take much care of them due to financial issues and also sometimes some of this people disrespect their own child and send them away from their life considering that they are burden on them and they are send to metal hospitals or caring house, after being dropped their, they are never even asked by family how are they or what problems they are facing, no one from family is there to ask or even showing interest to know their condition. ‘it’s like having parents but still living a life of orphan’ but this happens in case of some only not everyone faces this problem so for this kind of problem we should try to make awareness regarding it

C: possible solution that can be taken are as follows:

According to me the steps that can be taken for them are

  • Spread awareness that if the child born with disability is not a burden for the family
  • There should be no discrimination between the disabled and normal people
  • Having some fixed proportion of incentives provided to the disabled working people
  • Arranging regular check-up and their follow up with the doctor
  • There are many organisation who are providing facilities of wheelchair, tricycle and other such equipment’s to the needy at very minimum cost
  • Developing more rehabilitation centre and spreading awareness regarding the same
  • Developing training centre for the blind and disabled people where they can work and learn the things
  • Encouraging them to be part of the society and to celebrate the festivals with them

Such people should not be made isolated from the society, in-fact we should make them part of our society and should spend more and more time with them and should try to understand what they go through and what are we being blessed with and how should we value the things and how they value the things. Being born perfectly alright never made us thing about this section of people, such feelings only come when we visit such place or when we see such people and that too for that time period only, once leaving that place we are again back to normal as we are, so we should try to make a routine to visit such places frequently and spend time with them and understand them.
