One of the hottest topics nowadays is the Russian-Ukrainian war. In our war in Ukraine essay, we’ll dive into the causes and explore the historical background that constitutes prerequisites for the war. Also, we’ll analyze military actions that are ongoing and the social impact of the war in Ukraine.

Historical background

Throughout the nine centuries from the dawn of Muscovy and even before it, the people, which is now called Russians, regularly commenced wars against the people, which is now called Ukrainians. The latest war escalating nowadays reflects the general disposition of Russians. The results of studies suggest that the vast majority of the Russian Federation’s population supports the war. No essay on Russia and Ukraine conflict in English would probably tell you this, but the present war was inevitable, irrespective of who is in command in Russia.

The war actually started back in 2014, when separatist groups funded and catered by Putin’s regime, together with Russian troops (aka little green men), detached Crimea. Eastern Ukrainian cities of Donetsk and Luhansk and the area bordering Russia were captured, and quasi-states were established there. During these eight years, Russia was preparing for military actions both in terms of weapons and war propaganda.

The formal cause of the full-scale war was so-called threats to Russia's security. The potential expansion of NATO to the East was likely to jeopardize Russia. For the public, the purpose of the invasion of Ukraine was demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. Kyiv's nazi regime, as it is called in the Russian reasoning, was to be deposed, and ethnic Russians and Russian-speaking Ukrainians were to be protected, the Kremlin messages claimed.

Military actions

The full-scale invasion started on February 24, when over a dozen of cities all over Ukraine suffered a missile strike at dawn. Since then, Russian troops have invaded Ukraine's southern and eastern regions. The northern Ukraine’s parts bordering Russia and Belarus were occupied too, but under the pressure of the Ukrainian army, the Russians were drawn out.

Since then, the Russians have been terrorizing the civil population in Ukraine. From the first days of the war, Russia started nuclear terrorism. Russian troops occupied two nuclear plants – the ill-famed Chornobyl and the NPP in Enerhodar, Europe's largest NPP.

The frontline cities, towns, and villages are heavily shelled throughout the war. Kharkiv and Mykolaiv are the regional centers that suffer from Russian bombs. Minor settlements like Nikopol, Apostolove, Orikhiv, Zelenodolsk, and Pokrovsk are shelled day and night. Our essay on Ukraine and Russia war cannot include the names of all the affected towns and villages, but the number is great. Mostly, civil structures and dwelling houses are destroyed or damaged: multi-storeyed or private residential buildings, schools, markets, churches, train stations, farms, parks, or dams. The ratio of the attacked civil objects to military ones is 1:73, according to the Ukrainian government.

The crimes that were revealed in the areas left by Russians made the humanity of the world shudder with horror. Tortures, executions, rapes, mass graves, crucified children, elderly people, and even animals – all these and many more horrible things happened in Bucha, Okhtyrka, Izium, and Mariupol.

No less cruel are the Russian missile attacks on peaceful towns with many civilians killed: Vinnytsia central square (26 dead), Kramatorsk train station (57 dead), Kremenchuk trade center (over 20 dead), Mariupol theatre (up to 600 dead). Despite the incontestable facts, Russia claims they assault only military people and military objects.

Reaction of the world

The unprovoked war unleashed by Russia made the world community review its relationships with Russia. A row of states declared Russia a sponsor of terrorism. Countries dependent on Russia's gas and oil consequently refuse to buy them further. Russian sports teams are being abandoned from participation in international sporting contests. The format of a Russia and Ukraine war essay does not allow listing all the international isolation measures and sanctions incurred by the aggressor.

Due to the war, Ukraine receives unprecedented support from governments and people worldwide. Weapons, political facilitation, humanitarian aid, refugee care, and stimulating actions from the countries of the world are a helping hand for the Ukrainian people, economy, and logistics. They are also an excellent contribution to the future victory of Ukraine, which is questionless for European politicians. This is demonstrated by how they root for Ukraine and provide assistance at all levels.

The victory is also apparent for most Ukrainians, as numerous studies show. 92% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine wins the war. No wonder, as the Ukrainian army is showing impressive performance. The cost of the victory will be high, but the ultimate outcome shall outweigh it, ensuring the peaceful future of the next generations both in Ukraine and Europe.
