The impact of rape and/or sexual assault crimes can be seen in the very way we live our lives and raise our children because it affects the overall sense of safety. We see rape as a constant barrage of sex and violence in media; only needs to watch the media or read the internet/newspaper to be informed on such an act. Media coverage of sex crimes becomes particularly saturated when there is a high-profiled individual involving the known victim/offender. Bill Cosby was everyone's American dad that was also known as a stand-up comedian, actor, musician, author, soon transitioning to be a convicted sex offender. Harvey Weinstein is a well-known American former film producer. Although he is being accused of nonconsensual sexual interactions with eighty-five people.
Bill Cosby was sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison Tuesday, more than 14 years after he gave Andrea Constand pills that left her incapacitated in his home. ” In 2004, Cosby invited Constand to his home near Philadelphia. In the 2017 trial, Constand testified that Cosby gave her three pills that he indicated were "herbal" although claiming different. She said during trial that those pills made her feel uncousious. That's when, she says, Cosby assaulted her. Constant reported the assault to the police in 2005 and filed a civil suit against Cosby when prosecutors initially declined to press charges. Ten years later, a judge unsealed deposition testimony Cosby gave during that civil suit, in which he said he did give Constand pills and there was sexual contact the night of the alleged assault. In the existence of this type of case, this case is an African-American male vs. a Caucasian woman and the charges came up three different times with a 10 year period, although each time there is new evidence every time the case was reopen. In this case, “they” wanted to out Cosby to be out away. The white supremacy of the “victim” in this type of situation is being used to put a man away. She wanted to put the man away; knowing she had the upper hand and “power” to do so. Better yet, someone with high profile reputation isn’t going to jail or had a case that last 10 years.
Harvey Weinstein is on the opposite side of the stick. Weinstein is being accused of inappropriate to criminal behavior from requests for massages to intimidating sexual advances to rape from eighty-five woman. Weinstein has denied the allegations. Recently, “A New York judge dismissed count six of Harvey Weinstein's criminal indictment Thursday, which was a criminal sexual act in the first degree. ” This is the type of behavior that is being controlled by white supremacy; if it was a African American being accused, the courts would makes sure the individual is put away for a selected about of years.
In conclusion, reality is that the difference of skin tones will influence the different outcomes. We cannot afford to continue allowing these rape statistics to occur. We cannot be the nation where every two minutes an American is sexually assaulted. The current system is teaching white boys that their skin color will keep them safe even in cases of violent crimes like rape. If this continues, youth will grow up thinking that white skin gets you off basically free and black skin will get you sent to heavy prison time. Society has become about race and not about the crime. White supremacy is becoming more a mind-game and affecting people to think the lighter the skin, the better chance you have to “walk away” from a crime.
