Agatha Christie’s history is full of surprises. She has not only written detective novels, which have reached to 82 novels, but has also written many autobiographies. She also wrote six novels under a pseudonym called Mary Westmacott. Agatha Christie also wrote 19 plays Including the play “The Trap” which was known in London as the longest play at that time.

Agatha Christie, the famous English writer known as the “Queen of Crime”, came in the third place after William Shakespeare and the Bible in terms of the number of translated books and publications. They translated books in 103 different languages. Agatha Christie books were spread widely all around the world .

Her real name is Agatha Marie Clarissa Miller, daughter of Frederick Miller and Clara Miller, was born in a town called Torquay, England, her father was Frederick Miller one of the wealthy men working in the US stock market, they lived in a huge mansion filled with servants and she had two brothers They are: Margaret and Monti.

The Origins of Agatha Christie:

Agatha Christie was born in September 1890, Agatha Christie grew up in a middle-class environment in southwestern England, she spent her childhood in a happy environment surrounded by some powerful and independent women, Agatha Christie’s mother learned about the importance of education and therefore encouraged Agatha to receive her education from home, she learned to play piano and play mandolin.

In 1914, Agatha Christie was 24 and was full of beauty and shyness, at the time she met “Archibald Christie” one of the Royal Air Fleet during World War I, that pilot whose character was completely opposite of Agatha, they married on December 24, 1914, “Agatha Miller” became “Agatha Christie”, and Arishibald the bold man joined his unit the following day, Agatha Christie joined the war as a volunteer nurse serving the sick and the wounded after the war, most of the wounded were from the Belgians, and in 1915 Agatha Christie became like a pharmacist in the hospital she was working in.

The couple were reunited both Agatha and her husband met after the war and lived together in London, where Archibald received a job at the Ministry of Air Defence in 1918 , she gave birth to their daughter Rosalind in 1919 , six publishers wanted to publish the famous Agatha Christie’s “The Mysterious Affair at Styles” before it was published by John Lin in the United States in 1920, and later published by Bodley Head in the United Kingdom in 1921.

The second book for Agatha Christie “The Secret Adversary” was published in 1922, In the same year, Agatha Christie and her husband Archibald sailed to South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Canada, this long journey was part of a British trade mission, her daughter Rosalind stayed with her aunt Margaret for six months.

Agatha Christie’s novels:

In 1916, Agatha Christie wrote her first mystery type of book it was a murder and was called “murder by poison”, this was in her spare time, mostly she wrote this novel challenging her sister Margaret who challenged her to do so, Agatha Christie entitled the novel “The Mysterious Affair at Styles“ And was presented by a Belgian detective named Hercule Poirot, and this novel was the stamp shown by Agatha Christie in 33 of her other novels.

Agatha Christie’s contribution was noteworthy in the field of detective stories, and she received numerous awards because of that, like the Grand Master and Edgar Awards, also a number of films, television series, video games and comics were also presented based on Agatha Christie’s stories.

About 30 of her detective novels have been used in feature films, including “Murder on the Orient Express” (1974) and “Death of the Nile” (1978).

Agatha Christie, and her life as a playwright:

In October 1941, Agatha Christi wrote a play entitled “Black Coffee”, and wrote several other plays like “The Mousetrap” in July 1951, the play was dedicated to Queen Mary’s 80th birthday, this play became the longest play on the western side of London, and in 1952 Agatha Christie received Edgar award, and received the Grand Master Award in 1955.

In 1957, Agatha Christie became very ill and lived in the middle of archaeological excavations, Malwan her second husband then decided to retire and leave northern Iraq, the couple returned to England once again where they returned to writing projects, In 1968, Malwan took a medal for his contributions to archaeology, and in 1971 Agatha Christie was given the title “dame commander of the order of the British empire” and this title is equivalent to the rank of knight, in reward for her literary services.
