People who are kneeling during the national anthem are actually being supported by our troops. This protest that is happening across the country is actually legal, and should be supported in the United States because vets are supporting it.
My first reason why citizens should and can do this is because of the Constitution of the United States. In the First Amendment of the Constitution it gives you the right of a peaceful protest, and that is exactly what people are doing. In the constitution it states that “Congress cannot prohibit the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
My second reason why people can and will kneel during the anthem is because they have the feeling that being in the LGBTQ community, or being a different race than other people is causing those people to think that there liberties are not protected as well as others this is almost exactly what U.S. gay women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe said. Multiply NFL players have also stated that it’s not about veterans it’s about inequality in this country. This all started when cops shot unarmed African Americans, and the people who did it weren’t prosecuted for what they did.
Now people are saying that this will be disrespecting vets and the flag by kneeling and linking arms.
The truth is for linking arms is to show unity after what Donald Trump said about what the NFL should do if people kneel during the anthem. The kneeling is about racism, and police brutality in America which means this has no disrespect towards vets.
What vets really think was asked by reporter. The reporter asked Navy and Army reserve veteran Benjamin Starks about what he thought about Colin Kaepernick he said “He is exercising his constitutional right, and I’m glad that he’s doing it.” This means that vets know it’s not about hatred towards vets, but to inequality in America that needs to be fixed.
Protesting the national anthem will be a long time cause because inequality in America that will never be fully fixed ever. All laws support the cause of people protesting the anthem like the constitution. Other races and communities not feeling like their liberties aren’t protected. Then vets supporting Colin because they know kneeling is not about them. Kneeling during the national anthem should be supported because it means no disrespect to anybody.
