Smoking is an activity in which a person burns a specific substance and inhales the fumes produced. The most commonly used substance in smoking is tobacco which when burnt produces tar. This tar contains many toxic chemicals which cause damage to the body, mainly the mouth and lungs. Furthermore, many people do not realize how dangerous smoking is. In the first seconds of smoking, a mixture of gases are released around the eyes, nose, and the throat. Then, the eyes start bleeding and the throat starts irritating. Usually, the small bristles which called cilia work to clear the bronchi and the lungs from the foreign and toxic substances. However after a person starts smoking, it leads to paralyze the function of this cilia until it dies. After which, the toxins enter the lungs and alveoli easily.

Studies say that 70% of what a person inhales during smoking transform in the body to tars which travel instantly to the throat and the lungs. Here it kills the healthy lung cells. Moreover, smokers who consume one whole packet of cigarettes a day end up consuming one cup of tar over one year. This usually leads to loss of sense of smell and taste. Moreover, the lungs cannot absorb all these toxic substances. For this reason, these substances go immediately to the bloodstream and circulates to the heart and the rest of the body. Due to the destruction of alveoli, less gaseous exchange takes place in the lungs and capillaries therapy lowering the level of oxygen in the bloodstream and causing the increased heart rate due to increased workload. Fourteen years can be cut off from the lifespan of each smoker in both genders (University Health Center, 2009). Smoking is very common amongst adults and teenagers; and may lead to a dangerous disease known as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Nonetheless, smoking is still not banned.

First, it is important to be aware of the relation between smoking and CAD in order to reduce the risk of this disease. Tobacco is a harmful substance and when smoked, affects the heart and blood cells. Also, they impact the efficiency of the heart and also the viability and shape of blood vessels. Under those circumstances, this may lead to an increase in the risk of atherosclerosis. As an illustration, atherosclerosis is a type of disease that makes the plaque to be piled up in the arteries. Consequently, it will restrict the influx of the oxygenated blood to the body parts. Over time, if plaque remains piling up in the arteries, it will result in occurrence of CAD which leads to chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, arrhythmia, and death. Moreover, nicotine and carbon monoxide cause the heart to beat faster, causing an increase in risk of blood clots. For more clarification, the rate and blood pressure will fluctuate because the nicotine works immediately on the heart and nerves that manage respiration. In fact, smokers who have hypertension have a higher chance to become impotent than non-smokers. Additionally, 1 to 2 mg of nicotine is added to each cigarette which can reach the brain in 8 to 10 seconds.

The second factor that helps to reduce the risk of CAD is to know the reasons of why smoking should be illegal. For further understanding, smoking causes heart diseases such as CAD, and making it illegal will reduce the risk of these diseases. When the blood flow of the coronary arteries to the heart is obstructed, the heart tissue dies due to the lack of oxygen supply. This is known as a heart attack. Heart attack harms the myocardium. And later, scar tissue is formed at the site of the clot which can prevent the cells from growing again. Moreover, heart attack usually occurs when a sudden coronary blockage in the coronary artery happens where the atherectomy starts to rupture which leads to the activation of the blood clotting system. Then, the fatty plate which reacts with the active clotting elements blocks the artery cavity to reach the stage of sudden complete blockage. In addition, another reason of why smoking should be forbidden is because it affects people who inhale the smoke of the cigarette and considered as passive smokers and they may also get CAD. Exposure to passive smoking results in more than 8000 deaths by stroke (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). The third reason is the risk of death due to CAD, which is considerable in number. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 440,000 of 2.4 million deaths every year in the US.

Knowing the consequences of making smoking illegal helps to reduce the risk of CAD. For instance, the number of deaths due to CAD will decrease. Banning smoking is the best solution to reduce cardiovascular risks. Thus, it may decrease the rate of deaths by 36% which equalizes the established modern secondary preventive therapies. As an evidence, a story about Max Yandt – Heart attack survivor. He suffered his first heart attack and was given two stents to stabilize his heart. He admitted that smoking is very dangerous. Moreover, he realized how blessed he when he got a second chance to live. He also has never had the urge to smoke again. In addition, the number of passive smokers will minimize, which will reduce the numbers of CAD patients. Nonsmokers’ exposure to second hand smoke percentage’s fell from 29% in 2005 to about 3% in 2006 in the US. Furthermore, quitting smoking can reduce the risk of getting CAD. Therefore, the person will not have to worry about paying for treatment. So, quitting smoking aids to save more money. Studies say that the person could save an extra $27 in his pocket after one day of not smoking. Thus, the person can go to a restaurant to have lunch or buy new magazines, or spend them whatever they want. In addition, after one year of not smoking the person could save about $9,900. Hence, it is sufficient to buy an airplane ticket for two people to travel around the world, or buy new furniture.

Eventually, knowing the relation between smoking and CAD, the reasons of why smoking should be banned, and the consequences of making it illegal are the best solutions to reduce the risk of CAD. Furthermore, tobacco in cigarette plays a significant role in damaging the heart and arteries. Moreover, there are many reasons of making smoking illegal. For example, smoking causes heart diseases. Also, it affects passive smokers. Plus, it may lead to death. Additionally, recognition of the consequences of making smoking illegal is a helpful way to reduce the risk of CAD. For more illustration, the number of deaths, number of passive smokers who get CAD, and the payment for treatment will decrease. All in all, smoking plays deleterious effect in the heart diseases based on the statistics and numerical data. Thus, smoking should be banned.
