Why The Individualistic Mentality of Our Society Needs to Change

With the speed of time and as per the norms of 21ST century, the world is exponentially moving forward in terms of development, science and technology, creating a competitive market for youngsters to showcase their creative potential, the much required skill and their academic competency. We cannot argue that this rapid progress has made our easier , convenient and much more worth living, however the fact cannot be denied that it has aggravated the problem of mind, resulting in the development of individualistic mentality among the success –hungry and self-centered youngsters .To quench their thirsty of victory , the youngsters have laggardly started turning a blind eye towards their social life ,forgetting their social ethics values and norms .The matter of irony is that although the world has become a global village, connected through transportation and high tech communication ,but lacks deep integrity and bonding of the hearts among people even of the same locality and community.

A handful of youngsters think as a team, as a society while the rest have confined themselves within their career and their own personal life .The youngsters have taken everything for granted and family relationships have become a social drama for them. Heeding the elders’ advices has become reluctant for the youngsters .In the course of transformation, the world has become without borders, everyone has liberty to create their own fortune .Individualism has a minimal effect upon the career, however it has a tarnished the lives forever in the long run . It has no positive effects other than the good sales of some anti-Depression tablets .Youngsters are all alone and are becoming increasing lonely, they have no one to turn to .It has given an alarming rise in mental diseases and depression and host of other psychological diseases .Their way of life and their thinking makes them much more vulnerable to mental diseases than the previous generations.

One may argue that the secret behind western advancement and progress is the individualistic culture, where youngsters have liberty to choose the walk of their life. The belief that freedom, independence, and self determination are critical to the success of our country is true to a large extent, however in the long run, individualistic ideology has turned out to be selfish and self-centered. Solidarity is constantly increasing among individuals and society is in rapid threat of degeneration. This fact is accepted even by the western people and they are trying to find a sustainable solution to the burning problem. Development cannot be sustainable and rather becomes transient if family cohesion, cooperation, unity and brother degenerates at this rate .Children, the nation builders too are not free from such influences. Young children find it quiet hard to socialize .Thanks to the computer games they cannot part with .Some don’t know about the society and some express ignorance if you even ask them about their grandfather’s name .They are self-centered and cannot comply with the social rules .This existence of individualistic mentality poses a threat for the progressive future of the society. The society is in a threat of degeneration, if co-operation and brotherhood fades away .Amidst urbanization and development, a sense of co-operative motive is rarely found among people .A larger mass of people have no solid interest in public interest but are more compelled to life a rather stingy life, thinking only about them. This also leads to social misunderstanding as well as the society becomes vulnerable to social evils and crimes .In absence of benevolence and social etiquette among youngsters ,crimes have seen and alarming growth. Society, the kin and kith are just a kind of compulsion for them. The problem has already gripped the western society. No progress can substitute the humanity. Life seems to have been more easier but complex to understand .People do not have the sense of co-operative motive .The danger is being felt at this date and can be aggravated if we do not pay proper heed to it on time.

To sum up, individualistic mentality plays a role in the transient progress of the country ,however it has an adverse effect upon life as well as the progress of nations and their citizens in the long run. So, it has been the need of time to impart social behavioral skills to youngsters in order to develop them as adroit human resources assisting not only in creation a developed nation, but a co-operative society and sustainable world.
