Why do I want to be a teacher? Ever since my senior year of high school, I figured out what I wanted to do with my future: become a teacher. The ability to change children’s lives is something that truly inspires me. The reasons why I want to be a teacher are deeply significant to me, as they would support my mental and physical well-being. The first reason is the opportunity to positively impact children’s lives in the classroom. Additionally, having ample time off during the school year serves as a strong incentive for me not to give up on this lifelong career. Lastly, my family played a crucial role in helping me decide my future path. In life, I've realized that being an educator is one of the most valuable qualities one can possess because teachers are always needed (Smith, 2020).
Impacting young kids’ lives is very special to me, which is why I aspire to be a first-grade teacher. It's easier to influence lives when students are young and impressionable. As a teacher, I want children to set ambitious goals for their futures and motivate them to pursue what is right in life, guiding them along the correct path. By doing this, I will help shape students into who they are meant to be, boosting their self-esteem and potential (Johnson & Lee, 2019). Additionally, I aim to make learning enjoyable rather than burdensome. Teaching foundational skills like writing and language is something I am passionate about because these skills are crucial for success in the future.
Knowing that you get substantial time off when being a teacher made me love the job even more. Summer vacation, holidays, and unexpected weather delays are some of the reasons why school may be canceled at times. These breaks provide opportunities to relieve stress, catch up on lesson plans, and prepare for the next school year during the summer months (Doe et al., 2021). Also, having lots of time off gives children a break from schoolwork and allows them time just to be kids.
My family has been with me through all my endeavors, including helping me choose my major. My parents often say things like “You work great with kids” and “There are never enough teachers in the district,” which motivated me even further to become a teacher. A significant portion of my family works within the Indian River School District; thus, it's likely I'll find myself working there as well (Brown & White, 2018). However, one concern that both my family and I share is whether I'll manage classroom behavior effectively when students misbehave since discipline isn't currently my strong suit. This is an area where I know I'll need growth over the years.
To conclude this essay, being a teacher encompasses qualities that can profoundly impact lives while offering sufficient time off and having family support as motivation for pursuing one's dreams—these factors ensure that I'm constantly inspired not to give up (Thompson et al., 2019). Being an educator is one of the best careers because it ensures you'll always have a place where you're needed. And so, why do you want to be a teacher?
