Poverty, hunger, malnutrition. All of these things sum up one of the largest issues around the globe. In fact, it is so large that it effects approximately 795 million people around the world. World hunger is often overlooked and seen as something that is out of our hands. As much as we would love to just resolve this issue by transporting goods to the ones who need it most, we cannot. This matter has in fact, grown beyond just settling the hungry with produce or a meal to keep them diverted, it is now a matter of unfair economy, including Australia and our government. The Australian Government needs to assist in world development by eliminating wasted produce and instead, attempt to distribute it evenly around the globe to help support the hungry. World hunger is an issue resulting in a number of underlying issues such as death and sickness, an undeveloped nation and unhappy individuals. These are all the more reasons why this matter needs to be settled for good.

Every day, hundreds of millions of people struggle to wake up and live a regular, healthy day. 1 in 9 people around the world do not get the opportunity to follow a fit routine that not only keeps them happy and thriving but keeps them healthy and alive. Unequal distribution of supplies and produce to certain countries leads to numerous people lacking nutrition and sustenance to pursue a sustained life. Conger states that an estimated 9.1 million lives are lost in an average year as a result of world hunger, 3.1 million of that number being children . If these people had access to just as many resources as the rest of us, sickness and death would not be an issue as they would be able to consume an appropriate quantity of nutrients needed to avoid being malnourished and hungry. The current global economy is taking this possibility away from individuals as it is remaining irregular and unfair, giving unneeded and unwanted produce to people who do not need it as much as others.

World hunger is not only affecting individual lives, it is affecting countries and populations as a whole. An unhealthy lifestyle leads to poor work ethic, poor work ethic then leads to lack of education, finally resulting in undeveloped individuals. Numerous individuals who are going through this same predicament result in an undeveloped society. It is said that, ‘In Africa, 23 million children go to school hungry everyday. More and more children are not getting the tuition they need to live a balanced, steady life for when they grow older. More and more undernourished women are also giving birth to children who then grow up to be undernourished and uneducated. Families and individuals are unable to participate in even the most straightforward jobs and careers, such as farming and agriculture, as they lack working abilities due to the fact that they are malnourished. The amount of unknowledgeable people in a community have the ability to reflect a country as a whole. This then influences outsiders to have a negative perspective on the countries that are experiencing this famine, and their people. This issue is overall constructing a difficult working environment for a number of countries around the world, resulting in poverty and leading to a hungry and undeveloped nation.

Would you believe me if I told you that there is actually enough food around the world to feed everyone? Roughly one third of the food that you and the rest of the globe aim to consume, ends up in the trash or landfill, never to be seen again, that adds up to be about $10 billion dollars’ worth of food every year. If the global economy was to be equally distributed to countries that are in need of more goods, all of that wasted money and produce would soon become useful, allowing the more unfortunate and undeveloped countries to have access to the produce they need to create a more healthy and stable life for the whole population. This money will not only go to a more necessary cause but will reflect positively on particular countries. If the Australian government were to contribute to this cause by evenly distributing their profits, it would show that they care about other countries and their citizens’ needs and wellbeing. Keeping in mind that it may be a bit of an expense to begin with, our selfless actions would represent Australia as a whole and influence a large number of people to have a strongly positive view on our country.

Coming together and distributing are global currency evenly across the globe is the answer. We can all be a part of solving this matter by decreasing the amount of unnecessary and wasted resources. Hundreds of millions of people are suffering because of our choices. Hundreds of millions of people are not capable of living a fair, happy life. Hundreds of millions of people can be saved from this catastrophe. Australia as a whole need to contribute to this dilemma by not wasting unneeded goods, and instead distribute them more evenly.
