In A Good Man Is Hard to Find, the characters of the grandmother and the Misfit do not exhibit many of the characteristics of a good man as presented in the short story. While the Misfit is more obviously lacking in these qualities, the grandmother also falls short in many ways. Both characters are dishonest, with the Misfit lying about his identity and the grandmother lying to her family. They also both lack empathy, with the grandmother being selfish and the Misfit showing no concern for the lives of others.
In terms of responsibility, both characters are also irresponsible and do not take responsibility for their actions. The grandmother causes the family's accident by distracting the driver, and the Misfit causes harm to others without taking responsibility for his actions. Both characters are also arrogant and lack humility, with the grandmother being particularly guilty of this.
The only characteristic that the grandmother possesses that could be considered positive is her faith in God, although she does not always act accordingly. The Misfit, on the other hand, does not believe in God or any higher power. Overall, neither character embodies the traits of a good man as presented in the short story.
