On behalf of my application, this statement of interest is being presented towards the University of British Columbia, in the Department of Zoology for the master's degree program. The selection of this particular masters program at your esteemed university has been primarily, due to my prior affinity and interest towards the subject of Zoology. Besides that, the infrastructure and the research facilities of this internationally renowned institute also attracted me. The presence of flexibility in the graduate courses, and the computing facilities, are the most remarkable of the features of the graduate program which grabbed my attention.
It is my earnest desire to study, Ecology and Evolution, particularly, in this program due to my intention of doing specialization in this field my career and also, because of the great strides taken by the university in the field of research concerning evolution. I hope to contribute properly to this research community. I have a firm conviction regarding my undergraduate studies in Zoology at Dinabandhu Andrews College, that it has been able to provide me with a solid foundation in this subject to further build upon it in the future and I consider it to be a matter of great fortune to pursue my bachelors under highly qualified professors of the aforesaid institute. An excursion to the Dooars, in 2018, concerning the studies of forest ecosystem and biodiversity of Gorumara National park and its adjoining areas, under the supervision of Dr Sutapa Gupta of Dinabandhu Andrews College, has enabled me to inculcate the basic practical skills required for making assessments and carrying out certain ecological studies. Also, the environmental audit carried out for studying the diversity of the entomofauna in the surrounding environment of my college, under the supervision of Dr Ipsit Chakrabarti, the Head of the Department of the Zoology Department of Dinabandhu Andrews College, has also helped me to develop documentation skills.
I intend to become a PhD researcher, of par excellence in the field of Evolution, revealing the developmental history of the biological world, especially of the animal kingdom. Hopefully, I would be able to achieve my target of becoming an evolutionary biologist in the future.
The provided flexibility and freedom to the graduate students at the University of British Columbia appeals to me and I deem to be a very suitable environment for gathering knowledge. In addition to the previously stated facilities, the full online access provided by the university for gathering the necessary information to carry out tasks smoothly and easily is also a great help to extend from the university to the students in pursuing their academic goals. On a concluding note, I express my gratitude in expectation, of being accepted in the Master’s Degree Program at the internally acclaimed educational institute of the University of British Columbia.
