Scholarship in Environmental Science: an Appeal to a Committe

In a sample essay for scholarship “Why I deserve the scholarship” in which I will explaine why I need it and what future stepr I am going to do in my study path. Within why I deserve this scholarship essay I am writing to submit my application for Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship. I have been looking for an international study experience which can not only develop my professional career but also contribute to the development of my country and I believe that master degree program in Environmental Science at the University of Alabama can help me to achieve my goals.

I believe that there is no better place to continue my academic study in Environmental Science at University of Alabama as the US itself is a country which is actively participating to mitigate the effects of climate change. I trust that I will gain the insightful knowledge and experience about Ecology, Environmental and nature conservation through this program. In addition, joining international community and studying in the heart of America will give the opportunity to research how tourism destinations in America are shaping to be a sustainable destination and protecting environmental threats of tourism and hospitality.

In addition, my bachelor degree and the following experiences derived me to have a great interest in this program. Within a “Why I deserve a scholarship” essay there is a need to mention that I graduated from University of Alabama majoring in Tourism and I am currently working in a project for Human Resource Development in Tourism Industry supported by LuxDev. Since I am working for the HRD project, delivering training and developing curriculum are part of my responsibilities. I am teaching some tourism subjects including Responsible Tourism and Sustainable Tourism. Hence, I started interesting in environmental issues and sustainable development because environmental protection is a pillar of sustainable tourism’s three pillars: Balanced economic growth, Social well-being and Environmental protection. To continue an essay on why I deserve a scholarship, then I joined a community organization called “Climate Talks” as a volunteer with a dedicated passion of Environmental Advocate and participated in Climate Advocate Program. I am also a former delegate of Mangrove Ranger 2019 which was held as a YSEALI Regional Program. Moreover, I was a candidate of Myanmar Environmental Leadership Accelerator Program (MELA) 2020-2021 which is organized by 10 Billion Strong and HER Myanmar. After finishing this program, I founded a youth environmental conservation organization called Environmental Language together with another four alumni of MELA program and has been conducting environmental conservation projects. I am also a core organizing team member of My Voice My Tourism which is generating local community’s awareness on responsible tourism practices. Also, I was a research candidate at Center for Tourism Development and one of my research topics was “Environmental Awareness towards Eco-friendly practices of domestic travellers in Myanmar”.

I believe that my proposed study program can develop my required skills, knowledge, experiences and network to achieve my goals which can contribute part of the sustainable development of my country. As I am highly interested in research, curriculum development and policy advocacy, my goal is to do more researches and transform the results of these researches to national policy. Research projects which can provide meaningful results and national experts who can systemically conduct the researches relating with environmental conservation and tourism are national emergency needs for our country. The natural environment in most of the tourist destinations in Myanmar such as Inle, Bagan, Kyaikhtiyo, have been destroying by tourism, which is also affecting the livelihood of residents. Therefore, there is no doubt that I can take and overcome the challenges of studying abroad as an international with a commitment as I have strong passion to achieve my dream.
