Despite the differences between Coca Cola and Pepsi, many people cannot tell the differences in natural flavors and in branding of the drinks. The competitive beverage market led to the Coca Cola senior leadership making tough decisions that have positioned them to the top of their rival brand; Pepsi. The valuable brand of Coca Cola splits the preference of many people on whether to consume Coke or Pepsi. In many years, both Coca Cola and Pepsi companies have seen a global expansion of their markets, but Coca Cola has been consistent at the top because of its varying lines of beverages, apparel, and supplies with its logo.
Coca Cola advertising has focused on the brand as compared to Pepsi. The brand of Coke focuses on reminding its consumers on the importance of friendship, family, adorable bears, and other memorable associations. The advertising has worked great for Coca Cola as it owns up to 17 percent of the American market for soft drinks. Pepsi does not even feature in the second position in the American market for carbonated drinks, an indication of the differences in the marketing strategies applied by the two companies. Pepsi languishes in the third place in the American market; thus it is suitable to be described as a definite loser in the popularity sweepstakes (Lubin).
Coca Cola has a flavor that many people prefer, and many years of brand-on brand battle may not alter the preferences of the people. Many people describe the taste of Coke as that of crispiness with a balance of flavor and sweetness, which is absolutely unparalleled in the world of soft drinks, Coca Cola is said to be so good that it will be consumed by people until the very end of civilization, as compared to Pepsi, which is an example of a challenger brand, seeking an edge against the dominant Coca Cola. Marketers globally have emphasized the fact that Pepsi is new and more youthful, and it described as the choice of the new generation. Over the decades, Pepsi Company has put in efforts to endorse its logos and slogans but it has not overtaken Coca Cola to be in the first place.
Coca Cola is more stable than Pepsi financially as the company has continued to rely on ingenuity over the years. In the process, the company has achieved some of the outstanding advertisements that continue to put the brand to the top. On the other hand, Pepsi is known to have been dealt with bankruptcy twice, and the company is constantly losing the battle to the sales of Coca Cola. Pepsi is known to have topped Coca Cola once in 1979, but Coca Cola quickly rose and back up its position in the global market. While Pepsi has branched into may foods apart from beverages such as sun chips, Coca Cola has been consistent and still sticks to mostly beverages such as Minute Maid (Lubin).
In conclusion, Coca Cola is better that Pepsi when a comparison is made regarding the nutritional content, branding and even the taste. An analysis of nutritional content reveals that Pepsi contains slightly more sugar, calories, and caffeine as compared to Coca Cola which has relatively more sodium. The Coca Cola war has been raging for many years with soda enthusiasts taking sides of either Coca Cola or Pepsi products. But apart from the expensive advertising campaigns and packaging, one can really tell the difference that Coca Cola is still better than Pepsi.
