Should Abortion be legal? Abortion is a controversial issue that many people have nowadays. Abortion is a process where the mother kills the fetus.

The main reasons for an abortion are rape, teenage pregnancy, prostitution and disability diagnosis.

Abortion should be made legal because abortion is a women's right to make decisions about her own body, not painful to the fetus, and abortion when legal is safer.

First Supporting Claim

Women's right to make decisions about her own body. Pro-choice believers support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. As an example; a woman is raped by a man and becomes pregnant with his child. She decides she doesn’t want to keep the baby; she has an abortion because the idea of raising a child of her rapist is too painful for her to cope with.

Pro-choice defenders take sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro-life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of the choice she has made about her own body. That’s what pro-life supports. Often time’s situations like this turns into harassment which can be considered to be part of anti-abortion violence1. These pro-life supporters stalk, threaten, and even sometimes kill women who have chosen to have an abortion and even the doctors that provide the procedures.

A pregnancy to a woman is perhaps one of the most determinative aspects of her life. It disrupts her body. It disrupts her education. It disrupts her employment. And it often disrupts her entire family life. And we feel that, because of the impact on the woman, this … is a matter which is of such fundamental and basic concern to the woman involved that she should be allowed to make the choice as to whether to continue or to terminate her pregnancy. therefore a pregnant woman has the right to abort the fetus.

Second main point

Not painful to the fetus (Women have the right to decide whether or not to bring a pregnancy to term.)

When a pregnancy is unwanted, its continuation can take a heavy toll on a woman’s physical and emotional well-being. Decisions one makes about one’s body, particularly one’s reproductive capacity, lie squarely in the domain of private decision-making. A pregnant woman may seek advice from others, but only she knows whether she is ready to have a child, and governments should play no role in making that decision for her.

Raising a child is not an easy task & requires social & emotional commitment coupled with financial resources. As such if a person feels they are not ready for a child, it means the pregnancy is unwanted & resultant allowing a fetus to grow into a child is worse than abortion since the resultant child will grow in a non-conducive& destructive environment without the love, care & stability that a child needs.

Third main point

Abortion when legal is safer

The right to health can be interpreted to require governments to take appropriate measures to ensure that women have the necessary information and the ability to make crucial decisions about their reproductive lives, such as determining whether or not to continue a pregnancy, and to guarantee that women are not exposed to the risks of unsafe abortion, which can have devastating effects on their health, leading to long-term disabilities, such as uterine perforation, chronic pelvic pain or pelvic inflammatory disease.

Such measures include removing barriers that interfere with women’s access to health services, such as legal restrictions on abortion, and ensuring access to high-quality abortion information and services.

Conclusion

Abortion should be made legal because abortion is a women's right to make decisions about her own body, not painful to the fetus, and abortion when legal is safer.

If we think to stop safe and legal abortion, then we must be sure that what we have done is opening the doors to illegal abortion in our society. The right of women to choose whether or not an abortion is as a matter of fact an aspect of natural reproductive rights. If sexual education, preventive medical care and access to contraceptives would be more possible, then surely fewer women will have unwanted pregnancies. Consequently, the need to undergo an abortion will probably decrease.
