Being born and raised in India, I grew up wanting to become a computer scientist. To actually be able to have machines at your disposal, to make them solve problems, it thrills me. For me, studying computer science is not so much of a challenge as it is fun. It is exciting. It is kind of an academic nirvana. It has always topped my list of career goals. Being a bright student, more often than not I topped my class.
I aimed at getting into one of the top universities, which I did. My current undergrad school, where I just finished my freshman year, BITS Pilani, is consistently ranked among the top five in India. However without me consciously realizing, my thoughts about higher education evolved and matured during my multiple visits to the USA.
I visited the States in 2007, 12 years old and bubbling with excitement. It was summer vacation and we visited a lot of places in several states, I was in awe and I started seeing things differently. I visited my cousins' schools and found the atmosphere very warm and friendly, at the same time catalyzing over all education. I visited America again in 2009 and planned to do my undergrad in India and after that do my grad school here.
Now I have come to the USA for the third time and after visiting colleges and thoroughly learning about the higher education system, I am definitely sure that doing an undergrad from a school here, with a major in Computer Science would further smoothen my attempts in achieving my goals and better prepare me for grad school. A cousin, who is a Rutgers alumnus recommended it highly, for its healthy and overall learning oriented environment.
I am positive that Rutgers University will provide the perfect launching pad for me to further my career goals , and in that rewarding journey, enrich myself with values and winning confidence. Rutgers' expansive, aesthetically appealing campus, active student clubs and activities combined with distinguished faculty doing cutting edge research, is everything that a motivated student needs.
