Anti bullying week went really successful for the most part and was a really great experience in terms of leadership skills. I used a lot of different styles and took the mistakes I made from parent open evening night and tried to improve. There were a lot of positives and negatives and many things to improve on for next time but that is to be expected.
Firstly, some positive things that occurred were the group work. My group and I were doing bullying statistics which was pretty straightforward so doing the research and knowing who was doing what was pretty easily defined. I had to do the announcement for the group and this was one of the roles I was assigned, it went good although I was nervous when I was speaking since I was going to be heard from everyone in the school but it just made me more confident in speaking. My other group members had roles too like who was going to do the kahoot questions and the pictures but in the end everyone knew what they were doing so it came together and was successful in the end. Some negatives that occurred were time management. Everyone knew what they were doing but we weren’t really using our time effectively throughout the week. Most of us left our work till the last minute and started panicking even though we had a lot of time to prepare, we just didn’t use it effectively. For example, when it came to putting everything on the bristol board, we weren’t sure what should go in each section or how it should be laid out which lead to some unnecessary conflict.
The leadership styles I employed were mainly authoritarian throughout all of the group work. I did this because when it came to the final parts of putting everything on the bristol board and how it was going to be laid out, I had ideas that I made sure had to be heard. Everyone wasn’t sure of where everything had to be laid out but I took initiative and came up with it on my own and presented it to my group in an authoritarian type way. This got the job done in the end which was all that really mattered. When we were in the matrix, I mostly was managing the kahoot in the cafeteria and it went well. It was really successful from what I thought and I think I did a good job at managing it since I had to kick the people with inappropriate names and I had to make sure everything was running well and telling people to join it.
Overall, there were more positives than negatives throughout Anti Bullying week. I feel I have improved vastly from before and took the feedback from previous presentations and applied my knowledge sufficiently. This was a group project so there were variations of what leadership styles were employed compared to when I was by myself during the Grade 8’s tour. It was a great experience and I look forward to the next one.
