Are Self Driving Cars a Good Idea? Have you ever realized that getting in a car can be the most life threatening thing that you do in your day? Car accidents are the number one killer of people in the U.S.A.! Self - driving cars are an absolutely amazing idea.
First, individuals who are disabled would be able to see the world and all its amazing beauty whenever they would like. Many of disabled people often think about killing themselves because of the disability. A study shows that a relaxing car drive may sooth people in the vehicle and calm them down. So for sure going on a nice car ride could sooth people and also relax them.
Second they could get around! If a disabled individual had a job they would be able to get to work on their own. They would also be able to take their kids to school or drive them to get ice cream or just spend time with them. Someone with no arms no legs can still operate a car. The new Tesla ( Still in testing ) can use the human voice to tell it where to go and how to get there ( Address ). Here is what auto insurance has to say why it is a good idea to have self driving cars. In comparison to all of bad behaviors a driver might happen behind the wheel, a computer is actually an good driver.
Since 90 percent of car crashes are human error, computers would take a lot of danger out entirely. Computers us algorithms to determine appropriate stopping distance, like distance from another car and other data that decreases the chances of car accidents. There are no opportunities for a computer to be "distracted", which is a leading cause of accidents in the United States at this time. It's not clear to how many lives would be saved, it's obvious that human driven cars come at a very high cost in terms of danger. At the U.S. Department of Transportation actually gives a value to each human life 9.2 million dollars. Therefore, there would be a great cost savings in many different places like insurance costs and healthcare costs associated with accident recovery alone. Very importantly there would be a lot less cars. With there being a lot less cars that means there would be a lot less gas that would be needed and a lot less gas needed that means that there would be a lot less pollution. Think about it, Salt Lake City could look great again. No more traffic jams, programmed cars, no more waiting one hour to get to work. Some people might say "What about all the money it would cost", but i say it is worth the 1.3 million lives being saved.
Which leads me to my next point. Distracted driving is 90% of the 1.3 million deaths yearly in car accidents. 90% of 1.3 million is 1.17 deaths and those are the people dying from human error. With self driving cars distracted driving would be 100% impossible so we could save 1.17 million lives by getting self driving cars. We can stop this problem so very easy all we have to do is just agree that self driving cars are a good idea. Do you want the 1.3 millions of deaths to be you or a family member?
