Whether College Athletes Should Be Paid: an Argumentative Perspective

Should college athletes be paid for playing? The National Collegiate Athletic Association makes billion dollars of their athlete. College athletes should get paid to play because the money they get can help them support their family and limited corruption from NCAA and player will wait on going pro. 

College athletes should be paid to play because the money they will receive can help them support their family and their self. Many college athletes receive full time scholarship but they don’t pay for book and other thing college athletes need. ”The truth is that full scholarship does not always entirely cover tuition cost” (Meshefejiian), this shows that athletes still have to come out pocket for school still some of these student-athletes do not qualify for such loan, ”so there still a gap between the money they get and total cost of attendance” (Meshefejiian). Student athletes miss school cause of games which makes it hard for them to get loan to their attendance, some of the athletes come from poor background and the only way to get full ride scholarship is by playing sports. ”If college get paid player would be able to send money back home’’ (Lemmons). College athlete have deal with a lot of stress from game and school work so pay college athletes will easy the stress they have on them. 

Pay athlete will limit corruption from NCAA compensating athletes in college will limit the corruption involving boost and scandal and other thing we have hear over some year. This shows that over these years there have been over table deal which promised the athletes money if come play for them. The NCAA make billion dollars in revenue off their athlete with hat, jersey photo sign and interview just being in spotlight and the player does not get any of the money. The NCAA prompted game with most popular athletes in that sport with the entire interview and being spotlight can cause a lot of stress. Many people may argue that athlete get paid with a free education, however student-athlete are not at school most of the time cause of away game and if team make to the playoff then they really missed lot day at school so not learned anything beside a game plan on how to win the game. Athletes should be entitled to their profit or compensation due to injury they face each time they are playing a sport. When play a sport injury are bound to happen. I believe they are breaking the law because athletes play so many games for free and NCAA just sit back and make billon. That is fair if you think about they are working for free and athletes not get best education because they are not at school they are on road most of the time. College sport is the most watched sport which NCAA prompted the game and the athletes play for free. 

Players are going pro to early cause of the money. If college pay their athletes I believe both side will be win NCAA coach and fan can see their favorite college football players mature and see how far they came and the athletes will be able to graduate and make that choose whether they want, go pro not many athletes leave college go pro to support their family but ”when player go straight to college to make millions of dollars they don’t know how to manage their money”, people believe that they don’t need million dollar contact right know cause they are irresponsible, however ‘paying them may possibly increase the graduation rates’ and they will be smart with their money. Athletes should be paid for their hard work many believe that go pro and sign million deal and miss out on the chance to get their degree or master and make more money not play sport than when were play sport. 

Persuasive arguments in this essay show that getting paid college athletes will help them support their family and limited the corruptions from NCAA and player may stay in college longer. These will truly help college athletes with their long work scheduled with games; practice and school work and make a better place where I believed lot people would attendant. When you go to a college game, remember that money you spend buying your favorite player jersey, hat and sign autograph you not support them, as they are working for free and NCAA just sit there and make billons.
