To maintain an overall good function body we must have a well placed diet full of the right nutrients. Many benefits come from a healthy diet including more energy, healthy weight an body functioning. In class I have heard that especially for any athlete a proper nutrition is very important to stay focused and muscle mass growth. Through the purpose of this project I was asked to calculate my person intake over the last week. Viewing how my intake of foods affects my overall health and wellness. Seeing the lack or overload of one nutrition of the regular standards to my own personal dietary routine.
As known health problems can be influenced with the food intake along with genes. The United States for example has one of the highest diabetic population. With fast food chains growing they make it easier for a consumer to drive through and get a sloppy greasy hamburger without having to cook at home. If a consumer predisposed to diabetes in the family they can keep it in healthy standards with the right intake of food and proper exercise. This intake of continuous fast foods can also lead to numerous effects on your body. For example, high blood pressure from heavy sodium intake. Next, shortness of breath from weight gain an high cholesterol.
Analyzing my three day period food intake, I have realized that my diet was lacking in many areas. I need to be eating more fiber , proteins, and calcium products to reach a healthier goal. My calorie consumption was below average, sodium was substantially higher than recommended as well as iron levels low. As discussed in class, having high sodium levels will lead to heart problems such as stokes an kidney failure. Even with the proper exercise, sweating out it out you are at risk from heat stroke with the shortness of breath that can be a factor in high levels of sodium intake. This plays into my low iron consumption that was seen in my log. If the body does not obtain the proper hemoglobin the muscles will not receive enough oxygen to work efficiently. In severe cases this could result in anemia, shortness in breath.
Carbohydrates is a big issue in my dietary I love breads, pasta, and juices. With the excess amounts of sugars glucose is flowing into my bloodstream along with my liver and blood cells. Knowing our body needs glucose it does not need additional glucose therefore it starts floating in our body tell the fatty tissue picks it up. If I continue to consume my weakness of carbohydrates I need to make a few changes. The pasta I eat needs to be whole grain, instead of juices like sweet tea drink water and eat different fruits instead of chips. Doing these changes will increase the soluble and insoluble fiber intake that will lower my risk of excess weight and heart problems.
Find out all the information throughout the class and this project I have realized I need to make some changes. Although I only listed a few reasons it has given me a good idea of how my body is reacting to the consumption of foods I am having. Without the understanding of knowing what you were eating you dont respond differently when the genes you have allow you to have a high metabolism. I feel like this project was interesting an eyeopening but difficult to include everything I found out. In most of the reasoning to much or to little of something could lead to heart disease and weight problems. It was clear in every section that average humans needs to be aware of there consumption but not get so defensive about the subject. For myself I know I need to adjust my nutrition plane to stay healthy an productive to keep my body functioning to the best of its ability.
