The advertisement industry has become increasingly influential in today’s society, with product promotions appearing on various media platforms such as print, television, radio, and online pages. One such industry that has targeted individuals of all ages, especially children and adolescents, is the food and beverage industry, particularly fast food establishments like McDonald’s. As a result, individuals have been bombarded with aggressive and dedicated advertising campaigns that often have negative effects. Food advertisers target youths due to their spending power and potential as future adult consumers. An analysis of McDonald’s advertisement in this essay reveals that while it overtly promotes fast food, it also implicitly promotes affordability, desirability, and family-friendliness.

McDonalds Advertisement Analysis Essay

In the description of the McDonald’s ad I was able to observe the different factors that lead to the success and purpose of this ad. When I first looked at the ad the background and how the menu items were set up got my attention. The background is a vivid red color with a phrase is in the top left corner in white bold words saying “The dollar’s looking good here.” The name McDonald’s is in the bottom left corner with the letters border being black, and the letters shaded in a bright yellow color. Behind the Mcdonald’s letters there is an oval in the background that has a bright yellow border, and shaded in red with an ombre effect going to the middle of the oval. Going on to the food items, the first item being a hamburger which is a McDouble cheeseburger in the ad is bigger than the second one which is a McChicken followed by the first one. Then there is fries, a beverage, apple slices with a side of caramel, and a McFlurry at the end. The beverage cup has an image of a woman and a child blowing bubbles in which gives out a joyful overview. The ad features dollar menu items in which the advertisers added the phrase “The dollar’s looking good here.”, meaning that it is appealing that you are getting a good amount for the price that you are paying.

The McDonald’s ad in general targets the entire population it does not have any specific age range, sex, or race. Older men and women are targeted for going to McDonald’s early in the morning, they are the individuals that are in a hurry to eat something or coffee that is inexpensive before the long drive to work. It also targets the adolescents and children seeing that it is labeled as their comfort food. The adolescents and children are used to that kind of food, they know it is going to last them for awhile. Parents work late hours and they do not have time to cook or prepare dinner for their family so it is easier for them to order from McDonald’s in which they do not have to cook and they save time as well. The adolescents and children are targeted seeing that it is labeled as their comfort food. McDonald’s has developed ads that have toys in which attracts the young age ranges to collect the collections. When the children get their Happy Meals first thing they check is the toy they got and leave the food to the end which makes these meals desirable and friendly. A different ad that comes from the same corporation reiterates the original ad, they have a similar perspective. This ad has a bright light blue background with a M and the slogan “I’m lovin’ it”on the bottom right corner. It had three food items; beverage, hamburger, and a salad. The salad being the main outlook of the ad and behind is the beverage and the drink. Also having a phrase that says, “Simply a new choice for your McCombo”.
