Child labor is the act of involving children in income-earning activities that make them become an employee. The act is there to impoverish the children their rights such as attending schools, parental care till the age of eighteen years. It also has the capability of harming the health of the children permanently or temporarily depending on the extent to which the child work. The issue of being employed at the age of under eighteen has its effects on the life of the child and those who are connected to her (Amon et al, pp. 97).

The main concern that has been an issue of discussion to the child labor is othering. Othering is the act of separation of an individual from the group where he/she has had a connection to, either by self-othering or othering by the group. So as othering to occur amongst the youth who are under eighteen years, it means that child labor is still existing across the globe.

Some rules regulate how children are protected against child labor, but many countries lack the right enforcement of the laws by the parties concerned. Many states prohibit children from performing heavy jobs that they muscles can’t handle. According to statistics by the United Nations, it gives those children who are involved in child labor, works for many hours compared to the adults in the same job. It also provides that the children perform the most difficult tasks.

According to this statistics, it’s evident that the world has not succeeded in fighting this menace that is depowering away our youths and making them unproductive shortly. Various countries such as Kazakhstan, Mali are experiencing high rates of children who are involved in the child labor. The exercise to control child labor has born no fruits to the countries since they are struggling to kick out the menace in the country (Srivastava, pp. 455). Therefore, child labor still exists across the globe and has not been entirely eradicated.

According to Anker, he provided the various forms of child labor, which children are engaged in and are fully exploited in such fields. Children are involved in constructions to help in providing manual labor that is hectic at the end of the day. They are also engaged in agricultural activities that have been the common trend across the globe, and it utilizes the efforts of the children on a large scale. There are other various forms of child labor that include bangle making, beads making and also in various manufacturing industries (Anker, pp. 24). Therefore with such various types of occupation that the children are involved, it shows that child labor is on its rise and still exists.

Families that are living in a middle-class level, are compelled by their situations to use their children as a means to improve their standard of living. They get low incomes, therefore, there is a need for them to utilize the efforts of their children so as to increase their earnings. The laws that are enacted do not apply to the children who are involved in the family activities.

However much tiresome or heavy the activities are. Many rural families have the character of making sure that their children are involved in daily duties to avoid them engaging in bad behaviors. However, the children might lack the ability to perform the duties due to age and energy. Therefore, child labor is still in existence and is hard to eliminate it entirely.

Some of the developed countries such as the USA and European countries are also struggling to fight the menace of child labor. A report by the UN indicates that some children in the USA are being used in various factories to provide the necessary manual labor to the manufacturing plants. The USA has made efforts to ensure that they decrease the amount children who are involved in child labor.

The children do such jobs due to peer influence or those who are from a humble beginning and need to elevate the standards of living of their families. In comparison with the level of development in the USA and other less developed countries, it can be concluded that the nations will continue to use child labor for them to reach specific standards (Unicef report, 39). Therefore, child labor has continued to exist in various parts of the globe.

Child labor has become very hard to control in the whole globe. United Nations various information on how children are being involved in various forms of work in different countries of the world. Children in Cote D’Ivoire are involved in cocoa harvest to earn their daily living, while Kyrgyzstan children are engaged in coal mining. Many children having been forced to the labor by various circumstances that they are unable to control or avoid.

The various things that push the children into child labor are poverty, lack of access to education and less government action on child labor. All those factors trigger the children to get involved in the labor market despite their age. Therefore, this is evidence that child labor does exist and has not been eliminated.

Child labor comes with various effects on the health and social life of the child involved in the job. Many children distance themselves from their family and friends and lead a life of their own. Such a situation is referred to as othering and is mostly associated with forced child labor among the children. The children eliminate themselves from the parents who engage them in child labor that they cannot handle.

The children are also likely to distance themselves from their peers citing fear of not belonging to the same class as their colleagues who are not involved in the labor market. The children self-internalize that they can no longer be accepted by the society they are living in together with their peers, and this leads to self-othering. Therefore the governments should put actions in place to ensure that the children are protected from torture and extortion by other people (Lahman, pp. 87). The children should be privileged and be allowed to enjoy their lives.
