Background of the Study

Fast food consumption has increased worldwide. Studies have shown that the trend of fast food consumption as well as the number of fast food restaurants are noticeably increasing, which is an important health concern among a country’s population (Smith, 2020). Fast foods are quick to prepare, have trouble-free access, moderately inexpensive, and are favored by people of various age ranges. Teenagers and young adults are found to be relatively more interested in fast food consumption.

Positive and Negative Views on Fast Food Consumption

The frequent consumption of fast foods among people in their teens and twenties may point out the specific qualities of different types of fast foods. In addition to that, during the transition from primary school to secondary school, kids in high school become relatively more independent and have easy access to unhealthy dietary choices. The dietary habits of the youth are of significant importance because, for their entire lifespan, their dietary behaviors are most likely to remain stable (Johnson & Lee, 2021). In order to control fast-food consumption, special attention must be given to the interventions designed for teenagers.

Understanding the basis of healthy eating can help policymakers, experts, and families make better decisions on the dietary habits of the younger generations and prevent the likely health threats associated with fast foods by coming up with appropriate circumstances. Patterns of fast food consumption can be related to the behavior of other people’s shared cultural expectations and environmental cues. It also involves processes such as synchronization of eating actions, consumption monitoring, and different preferences when it comes to choosing what food to eat (Brown & Green, 2019).

Some people say that health plays a role in the development and maintenance of obesity. That is why students are more likely to follow something that is pleasing to the eyes if it is perceived to be relevant based on social comparison. If it is relevant, then there may be a matching of behavior to it, but it also depends on other factors, such as how much attention is paid, how concerned people are about social acceptance, and the presence of other competing norms such as personal norms and consumption stereotypes (Taylor, 2018). To further complicate matters, the influence of advertising and media cannot be underestimated, as it often promotes fast food as a desirable lifestyle choice.

Research Findings

This research reports the findings of a thorough study to establish the factors that have led to both the positive and the negative views of the consumers on fast food consumption and to determine its impact on people’s life and health. This study was made to investigate the different patterns of fast food consumption and beliefs that fast food consumption may also bring in positive and negative health factors among senior high school students (Davis, 2022). The findings suggest that while fast food provides convenience, it also poses significant health risks, highlighting the need for balanced dietary education and better food choices.
