High amounts of fructose sugar and water are the main ingredients contained in juice while different juices have varying levels of calcium and vitamin D. Due to the high amount of sugars, juices are preferred sources of energy especially for people involved in strenuous activities. There are claims that juice helps in making a person strong to get involved in activities that end up straining their muscles.
Other claims associate juice with its ability to prevent the formation of rickets in children suffering from malnutrition. It is also claimed to be a preferred option for people with a reduced appetite or people having problems with swallowing solid foods. The claims made about the health benefits of juice are attainable considering that the ingredients included have a scientific basis that confirms their ability to cause the indicated changes in the human body.
Calcium is known to help in the development of strong bones. Calcium is also indicated to help in the normal functioning of the blood vessels and boosting hormonal processes in the human body. Vitamin D has a role in enhancing the development of strong bones in children especially in communities suffering from the effects of malnutrition (Larson, 2015). The water component in which the ingredients are found has a lot of healthy benefits considering that water is a biological solvent used in most biological reactions in the body. Even though the claims have a scientific backup, it must be known that juices have low amounts of the indicated ingredients compared to other forms of foods. Sugars form the biggest percentage of the ingredients while calcium and vitamin D account for very low percentages.
Therefore, there are high chances that drinking juice might fail to produce the indicated health benefits in most cases. It might require the user to drink juice alongside other foods to benefit fully from the said benefits. The refreshing effect of the juice is the main reason while most people will go for it, but very few people will be interested in the attached health benefits. Based on the claims made about juice, I would buy it just for the sake of its refreshing effects and end up drinking a glass of juice after meals as a healthy way to quench my thirst while at the same time benefiting from the minimal biological implications indicated for the ingredients contained in juice. Such a routine would help me supplement the recommended daily water intake.
