History & Analysis of Non-profit Organization "The Fred Hollow Foundation"

Introduction

The case study that we are working on is about one of the well known non-profit organization named “ The Fred Hollow Foundation” which is working towards restoring the eyesight of the people and make them able to see this beautiful world. This organization is working in 26 countries including Australia and is being regulated from Australian department. This assignment is all about studying and disclosing the values and ethos of the organization on which it is based on. The main motive of this study also involves the detail analysis of the foundation like, what they do?, why they do? etc.

This organization supported by Australian government and other NGOs too for capital support and other financial aid. The case study also use to study the resource requirement of an organization to achieve the goal what they have dreamt. This organization working for the people to care their eyesight which is one of the great social work. Role in the community, programs run by them and the objectives This foundation is located in Australia, Africa, The pacific, South Asia and South East. The main difference what this foundation has made is, it don’t discriminate the people on the basis of their financial status. No matter you are poor, this organization will treat you equally at par with rich. Sustainable process has been regulated by this organization in order to support the community and to solve the problems of the people in need.

By treating all the individuals equally in all 26 countries this organization not only solving the problems of the people in remote areas, but also spreading the concept of equality indirectly. Training to the Ophthalmologist and empowering the individual as the health worker and nurses with the knowledge so that that, they could help their community on their own.Blindness prevention program, the main moto of the organization which has been operated in 19 countries, establish throughout the South Asia, Africa, Australia and South east Asia including Vietnam and Nepal too.The services includes preventing, screening, rehabilitation, curative treatment and eye health program which made this organization emerge in health sector. And different areas has been served differently as per their needs which has been discussed as below.

The Indigenous Australian Program

The organization focuses not only on the eye issue but issues like improvement in nutrition and literacy of the various communities like Jawing community in the northern territory. Raising the fund and increasing the investment from the shareholder is another focus of an organization to deliver the quality services in the remote and far flung areas where there is lack of the same so that under privileged and poor could live their life at par with rich and privileged on other hand. The services in such remote areas includes not only eye care but also services like surgical treatment for diabetic retinopathy and eliminating the trachoma.

Optometry Program

Optometry program to bring the eye vision of different people so that every individual could be benefited of their birth in this beautiful world is the another objective of this foundation. The program made the individual able to have the services at their doorstep no matter what remote place they are belong to. Foundation made the services available for them in both areas like large department and stores as well as in urban areas. This program made the isolated area in Australia open by providing necessary services and training and knowledge ensured effectiveness of work.

Vietnam Blindness Prevention Program

Spreading awareness about various diseases among the society and community through various means so that to decrease the cases of vision impairment and improve the health and treating already caused diseased person and preventing the other diseases by using various facilities and knowledge is also one of the main aim of The Fred Hollow foundation. To reach the every individual and make them free from diseases like trachoma, glaucoma, refractive error, pediatric eyes and cataract eye complications by providing them best class of treatment that they deserve.

History

Fred Hallow was known humanitarian and the great eye surgeon who founded this The Fred Hallow Foundation way back on 3rd September 1992 in Sydney, Australia. The Fred got to know that he is suffering from the cell cancer and do not have enough time to work for the community and that’s why at that time he founded this organization to help the needy.Friends of Fred and his wife also help them to build this foundation but after demise of Fred his wife Gabi over taken her husband’s remaining work to serve the poorest of poor in Vietnam and other countries.

The factors that underpin the organization functioning, values and ethos, while dictating the organizational structure in demarcating the following operation:

The main function of this organization is to take public opinion so that they could stay adhere to practices and policies and deliver the services efficiently to effective indigenous who were having eye sight problem and other health issues.

To improve the health of existing population of Australia and rising the awareness among the communities and countries to help them out from their suffer because of lack of resources and remoteness.

To serve the community in effective manner this organization also worked with different organizations so as to increase efficiency and more and more people could get the benefit at societal and at large at global level too.
