Grameenphone is the largest mobile phone servicing company in Bangladesh which has a presence in 13 markets across Europe and Asia. It is a Bangladeshi GSM-based mobile phone operator company. It started its activities since 26 March, 1997. At present it is the biggest mobile phone operator in Bangladesh with more than 50 million clients. Grameenphone occupies more than 50 percent of mobile phone market in Bangladesh. Grameenphone got its license as a mobile operator from Bangladesh Post and Telecommunications Department on 28 November, 1996.
After getting license, Grameenphone started its activity on 26 March, 1997, the Independence Day of Bangladesh. It's notable that the operator is the most popular one in Bangladesh. They provide high quality services even at the remote areas of the country. At present the client amount of Grameenphone is about 70 million. Recent Activity of Grameenphone:
Grameenphone's data subscriber or internet user base stood at 3.25 million, which is 49.9 percent of the total subscriber. Grameenphone's mobile number is more than 2 million. Grameenphone said in a press release. The statement said that Grameenphone's revenue earning in the first half of this year is 6,380 crore, which is 1.2 percent more than the same period last year. The revenue earned from data was 21.1 percent of the revenue. And the revenue generated from the voice is 2.4 percent of the growth. Grameenphone's Chief Executive Michael Foly said, due to intense competition, the first half of 2018 was very difficult. Still, we were able to maintain healthy growth and margin.
We have crossed the milestone of 20 million 4G customers and our network expansion and modernization work is going ahead with the best experience of customers.
In the statement, the Grameenphone 4G licensing, spectrum, technology neutrality fees and network coverage and capacity building increased in the first half of the year, tk. 2,540 crore.
At this time, the company paid Tk 4.790 crore to the state treasury in the form of taxes, VAT, tariff, spectrum allocation, technology neutrality and license fees. Grameenphone CFO Carl Eric Bronteen said that Grameenphone's EBITDA and rubbing have increased in the first half of the year.
