“Any story worth telling is worth telling twice.” Oftentimes we watch movies passively and in incredible amounts. However, it is only in some rare cases that we come across movies that manage to turn our world upside down, changing our perspective on life and leaving us in awe. ‘The Lion King’ is indeed one of the movies that first left an unforgettable impact on me as an 8-year-old child. When Simba, the young prince cub, witnesses his father’s murder by his vile uncle, he is led to believe it was his fault thus fleeing his kingdom in shame. Through his journey, he meets new friends who teach him profound life mottos, and he eventually returns to reclaim his throne. The movie teaches the audience various life lessons along with its storyline. ‘The Lion King’ has changed my life for the better by inspiring me to adopt new life philosophies and by opening my eye to the truth about the circle of life.
‘The Lion King’ has helped me adopt a better style of living. First, it inspired me to always follow my dreams. For instance, Simba gives up on his dream of ruling his father’s kingdom as conflict gets in the way, but in the end, he perseveres and manages to accomplish his life-long goal. Therefore, I learned that no matter how improbable something may seem, through hard work and effort, I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. Second, it prompted me to believe that worrying is not constructive. For example, Simba’s friends comforted him about his past, telling him not to worry about incidents he can never change. This has made me realize there is absolutely no use in worrying about what is not in your control. To sum up, Simba’s journey in ‘The Lion King’ unlocked new life ideologies for me.
‘The Lion King’ has also enlightened me to basic life truths, predominantly the circle of life. Firstly, I learned that conflict and dreadful events are inevitable. Each person, good or bad, goes through terrible mishaps in their life, but that is simply existence and there is no way around it. For instance, Simba is an innocent cub who has done nothing to deserve the tragedies that have struck his family, yet he must suffer the hardships of life like everyone else. Secondly, death is a part of life. No creature can achieve immortality, so all one can do is strive to accept death and not fear the inevitable. To illustrate, Simba’s father teaches him about death from a very young age, preparing him for life’s fixed predestination. In summary, ‘The Lion King’ helped me embrace the reality behind life and the circle of life.
From motivating me to embrace a new way of living, to teaching me about the circle of life, ‘The Lion King’ has positively changed my definition and outlook on life. Ever since watching this movie, for every bad moment, I go through, I keep in mind this problem-free philosophy, summarized in a wonderful phrase: “Hakuna Matata!”
