Good health is often associated with a fit and lean body, with terms like diet and exercise commonly connected to maintaining good health. However, the human body is a complex system that interconnects with our mind and affects each other immensely. Hence, it is vital to enable a healthy connection between our mind, body, and soul by developing and fostering ourselves, physically, mentally, and spiritually. In this essay, we will discuss strategies that one can adapt to stay healthy, not only physically but also mentally and spiritually.
The correlation between a healthy body and a fit physique is well established. To maintain good health, physical activity is crucial. There is a wide range of physical exercises that one can engage in, based on their interest and capability. For instance, if one is looking to build their fitness up, they can try aerobic exercises such as brisk walking or cycling. If a person is looking to maintain balance, which will be useful at an older age, they can try flexibility exercises such as Taiichi, Pilates, and yoga. However, physical exercise alone will not be effective and efficient if we do not take care of our food intake. A balanced diet, comprising of vegetables, fruits, grains, protein, and dairy, attains all our nutritional needs without exceeding our daily calorie intake. Veganism is another popular option in recent times that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products, and all other animal-derived ingredients.
A healthy body is highly affected by a stable mind. Mental health is a taboo topic in many cultures, including Malaysia, where it is often considered as a trend and not taken seriously. Nurturing mental health begins with ourselves, and it is vital to keep our minds in a positive state as much as possible. When we feel helpless and lonely, it is best to seek help and assistance. A good circle of friends is crucial in maintaining good mental health. We should surround ourselves with a supportive group of family and friends. Radiating positive vibrations and giving off positive energy helps us feel better and indirectly helps others feel good too.
Maintaining a good connection between body, mind, and soul is another crucial aspect of good health. Spirituality is often associated with meditation, prayers, and constant faith in God. A good connection with our faith can be established by reading core religious texts like the Quran, Gita, and Veda. Additionally, making a pilgrimage to a holy place can cleanse our soul and provide us with a new perspective on life. Positivity usually interconnects with any faith or religion, as all religions teach us to be good and do good.
Mental health is not something that can be measured like blood pressure or blood sugar levels. To maintain good mental health, we should ask ourselves questions about who we are and what our purpose is in this world. We should not hold back our fears and try to come out of our comfort zone. It is important for us to live a life of purpose to our fullest potential. Traveling also helps us keep distractions away and connect with ourselves even further.
Drinking enough water and getting seven hours of sleep daily are often overlooked, but they are crucial to maintaining good health. Detrimental habits like drinking alcohol and smoking should be avoided whenever possible. At the end of each day, taking time off our phones to unwind, listening to good podcasts or music, and reflecting on our deeds while connecting with our loved ones are vital in maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul.
In conclusion, physical, mental, and spiritual health interconnect, and each aspect is crucial to maintaining overall good health. By engaging in physical activities, eating a balanced diet, nurturing our mental health, connecting with our faith, questioning our purpose, avoiding detrimental habits, and taking time off.
