There are several watchdog organizations in all over the world who always keep an eye on the worldly affairs in a particular area, in which their teams works upon every single aspect of that particular area, like if will talk about the journalism or news media then there are several international watchdog organization who works in every country and their main concern only will be the journalism and work or problems related to the journalism and because these organizations have that international credibility and authenticity that sometimes even the government also have to answer these organizations if something went wrong in those particular areas and government also use their reports, facts and figures when they have to make some laws or have to do some kind of research or survey thing and the governmental bodies also help out these organizations when they have to do some work.

So, for journalism the organizations like Reporters without Borders, Committee to protect Journalists (CPJ) and United Nation Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) do their work in this field and they reveals some unheard facts and figures about the journalism, and also do many researches so, that those who are working in this field can make more benefits from those researches. These organizations have their own different or unique kind of research pattern which they follow and make their reports on that. Every organization watches a country or their particular theme in which they have to do the work from a different perspective and give rankings and counts the deaths with that perspective.

United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reveals in its report ‘World trends in Freedom of Expression and Media development global reports 2017/18, that from 2012-16 530 journalists were killed in all over the world and in which 18 journalists are from India. They said in their report that there is an expansion in no. of death from the previous five years (2007-11) where they counted the no. deaths was only 316 and now this no. is more than 67.72% in these five years. UNESCO also finds out that these journalists were from different-different media platforms and they observed that out 530 dead journalists 166 were the Television journalists, 142 worked in Newspapers and Magazines, those who worked on online platforms and on Radio were 75 and 118 respectively and 29 journalists were from other platforms.

Committee to protect Journalists is also an international not for profit organization and according to this organization from 1992-2017 total 28 journalists were killed in India because of their work.

In India we call the media and press the fourth pillar of our democracy, on which our democracy is standing but with constant attacks on the journalists and the news makers the watchdog organization Reporters without Borders says that the India is the third unsafe country for the journalists and the news makers after the Syria and Iraq, because here in India also the journalists are being killed because of their profession.

This organization also conducts ranking system in which they give rankings to a particular country on the basis of freedom of press in that country and out 180 countries in the world India is on the 138th no. on the index of freedom of press, whereas the neighboring countries of India like Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Pakistan are on 94,106, 117,120, 137 and 140 respectively.
