Maliban is the pioneer biscuit manufacturer of Sri Lanka. Incorporated 60 years ago by the visionary founder Angulugaha Gamage Hinnyappuhamy, Maliban Biscuit Manufactories (Private) Limited, stands tall as one of Sri Lanka’s most trusted and respected brands. Maliban manufactures a range of crackers, cookies and wafers, sold in over 100,000 stores in Sri Lanka. They produce 25 million packs of biscuits every month in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility under stringent hygienic conditions.

Maliban is an ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 and OHSAS 18001 certified company. They won Sri Lanka’s prestigious National Quality Award on multiple occasions. Maliban is a privately held limited liability company and Their team consists of over 1,250 employees. The company is managed by a team of professionals who head key disciplines. Mr. A G R Samaraweera, the current Chairman, has led the company for the past four decades, making Maliban a household name in Sri Lanka.

The Maliban journey began in the early twentieth century. A young lad from the south of Ceylon, as the country was then known, came to Colombo in search of greener pastures. A.G. Hinnyappuhamy started his simple tea kiosk on the First Cross Street in Colombo. The tireless efforts of the young man succeeded and in 1935 he opened Maliban Hotel at 62, Maliban Street in Pettah. With the success of the hotel, Hinnyappuhamy expanded his business by starting his own artisan bakery in Kotahena. Products with superior quality and taste served to the customers increased the demand. Soon demand exceeded the supply. A decision was taken to install a mechanized manufacturing process and in August 1954 the country’s first mechanized biscuit manufacturing facility started operations.

In the 1960s with continuous growth of the business the company moved to a spacious site in Ratmalana, just south of Colombo. A new factory with modern semi-automatic manufacturing processes was built, ensuring consistent product quality and high levels of food safety. Even today it is recognized as one of the best biscuit manufacturing facilities in Asia.Maliban started exporting biscuits in 1964 to the mid-sixties. Over the years Maliban biscuits have come to be accepted as a quality product in many countries.

Today Maliban products are enjoyed by consumers in over 35 countries across 5 continents. The International marketing efforts of Maliban have been recognized by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka for several years. Maliban was the Gold Award winner of the food and beverage category at the 2014 NCE export awards.Maliban exports its entire range of products. They also supply biscuits for private labels and undertake contract manufacturing for many renowned international brands. Maliban also specializes in supplying customized biscuit products to the catering industry and for airlines.
