Monitoring Human Rights Within The Un’s Peacekeeping System

The foundations of the United Nations are built upon the very core idea of human rights, therefore, they strive to progress towards the goal of obtaining and maintaining equal human rights. Every country is signed to the Treaty of Universal Human Rights, meaning that human rights are being even further filtered into the United Nations. For example, there has recently been human rights monitoring within the peacekeeping system.

However with peacekeepers, countries are shown as unable to progress while utilizing them. Most times, peacekeepers are sent in conflict zones. This will of course be less effective in comparison to a state out of conflict, since conflict zones provide no peace to actually maintain. President Trump claims that the peacekeeping system actually be cut out of the UN, seeing as subsidies are being wasted to something that is systematically inefficient. Furthermore, there have been records of abuse done at the hands of peacekeepers. The Secretary General is held accountable to this, and will need to find alternatives to peacekeeping.

Cuts are being made financially, however, thus leading to the shrinking of the United Nations. Therefore, this organization will need to be open to different sorts of funding. There may be funding private sectors, or via a stronger ties with less economically developed countries. The main goal of the Secretary General regardless, is to obtain other sorts of funding other than by government means.

African countries pose to be an impending issue upon the Secretary General. These countries demand more of a say, they demand more respect, even if that does cause dissatisfaction within the general court. South Africa has withdrawn from the Security Council as a result. These locations simply desire more for their wisdom to be heard and taken into consideration. It is believed that the Secretary General is more than capable of doing just so, with his previous experience in regards to refugees. Although the Secretary General is held accountable for either the success, or the failure of the United Nations, it seems that he will prove more than competent in the duration of his five, or hopefully ten years.
