Looking back at my school days, I remember my strong dedication towards management and marketing. Back then, I was always looking forward to my Business GCSE classes as well as my understanding of the business world. I would like to study marketing because my family and background have given me an intuition into the managerial side of business, in particular the administration of a small company. Business in general is one of my absolute favourite subjects, as it's applied in the everyday life in various ways.
I strongly believe that business is fundamental in today's contemporary society as everything around us is a business in one way or another. I would like to attain a career in an environment that will enable me to develop a vision, use my creativity and help me gain a broader image of the marketing sector. What also intrigues me is that the reality of a marketing degree is that it is open-ended, and I can therefore tailor a career into other things I’m passionate about such as theatre. I consider myself an extremely innovative person, a trait that is clearly needed for this sector. For example I have directed my own Artaudian inspired performance in my A level drama course which helped build on my teamwork skills. The amount of times we have to take decisions in our daily lives is mind-blowing, and in particular, business related decisions have turned to move the economy of the whole world.
At the end of the day, I am fascinated by this sector as marketing is all about finding ways to reach and communicate with different audiences and as an extrovert, it is what I like to do. I have tried to further take interest on this by always keeping up to date with the current affairs, by weekly reading newspapers and educating myself about what is happening around the world and how the business world is affected. I have always paid attention to what is going on in the economy and what impacts it has on certain businesses.
As my father has been in this sector for over 20 years, I have always wanted to follow his footsteps and become a successful business owner just like him. I yearly used to go to famous business exhibitions such as KBB Birmingham, EcoBuild, Sicom, IFE and many more. The process of talking to different companies and researching about their ideas in different areas of the market has helped me think outside the box. In order to attain more experience I wanted to put myself in a workers shoes and I have worked for the well-known company Superdrug for a few months. I had the role of a sales advisor and I had different tasks everyday such as handling things behind the counter and most importantly interacting and helping customers. This has helped me develop strong communication skills as I have had many experiences with all types of customers. This involvement has helped me get an insight of how a company runs itself and how it treats its employees.
