One sunny Saturday morning, I got ready for a hike with my classmates. I was so excited about it since it was my first time. I ate a light breakfast which consisted of a bagel with cheese. After that, I grabbed my backpack and hurriedly ran out my house and then met my friends at the school’s compound. At that time, I didn’t think that there would be a terrible disaster ahead.
The jungle that we were going was far from our area. Its name was Salymbia Jungle. The drive was three hours long but it wasn’t a dreary ride as we were all eager about the hike and we had each other’s company. We appointed a guide and his name was Thomas. He said that he has trekked in the Salymbia Jungle lots of times and that he was familiar with the trail. When we arrived, Thomas permitted us to begin. There were a wide variety of plants which I had never seen before. The smell of the jungle was so earthy. All of us were amazed with the beauty of the scenery and the sound of the creatures. After a while, we were walking and then I looked at my wrist to check the time but then I realised that my watch fell off. Then I walked back without informing anyone. I did not worry about getting lost since there were other persons behind and I thought I would have been able to catch up with a crew. I went back searching through the pathway and I lost track of the time and sight of my classmates. I immediately realised that I was alone.
The sky started to become darker and I was very petrified. I didn’t know what to do so I called out to my friends but there was no reply. I looked for a way but none of the scenes seemed familiar. I walked for a few more minutes and I got tired and hungry. I was horrified and craved for this nightmare to finish. I gave up and leaned on a tree to rest. As I was falling asleep, I heard a human voice. I doubted my ears but then I heard someone else. I screamed, “HELP!”
They were rescuers who had come searching for me because my friends Jake and Liam reported my loss. They took me back to the bus and I was so relieved. It was the worst experience.
