Having grown up in Mexico, I have seen first hand the effects of non-sustainable actions, including environmental pollution, which has been a source of motivation in my life. In fact, I wish to dedicate my time to a company that is climate-friendly and socially responsible. One that believes that sustainability can profitably advance key business priorities and that it requires collaboration with key stakeholders. I want to be part of the movement, part of the change towards a more sustainable world and collaborate with others to bring new alternatives to secure our future, which I why I am more than eager to join this course.
I believe that we are at the consolidating state of societal learning where there is an increasing view of the need for environmental legislation and collective action, meaning that firms are facing growing pressure to become greener. Corporations need to promote a broad industry participation in corporate responsibility as they realise that there are gains through collective action. I am an excellent team worker, I am always open to new ideas and I believe that every challenge is a new opportunity. I have a multicultural background as I have lived in five different countries therefore I work effectively with individuals from different cultures, but I am also aware that there is still so much to learn.
As part of my bachelor degree, I took a course on management and sustainability, through which I gained knowledge and critical understanding of the complex interrelationships between management, practice and the inherent ecological limits.
Last year, I was selected to become an ambassador of my university to attend the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, which was by far one of the most fulfilling experience I have ever had. I will be able to apply the knowledge acquired from attending this council meeting where I learned about solutions to the most challenging sustainability issues. I was truly inspired by Adam Braun's book The Promise of a Pencil where he explains that the key to solving the world's most pressing issues is education.
I want to open my eyes to new ideas concerning sustainable development but I would also like the ability to bring my own. Through this course, I will be able to learn about the industry I wish to work in, I will be able to connect with like-minded people who share the same passion and interests as me, and I will learn information that will help me fund my own organisation one day.
