My Motivation to Be a Sister of a Religious Order

Honestly speaking, I have never sincerely thought about my future vocation before. It is because that I grew up in a traditional family that values ordinary life. None of my relatives embraces religious vocation so that I am not too familiar with this option. I was raised to believe that marriage is what I am going into and there is no other alternative. Besides, I am the only child of my parents so that I am always expected to have children in the future. For those particular reasons, I have not seriously considered being a sister of a religious order. However, as this journal task raises the question, I performed some detailed study and found religious life pretty different from what I initially expected. There are three main advantages of becoming a sister of a religious order: getting closer to God, living a life full of meaning, and devoting oneself to help those in need. The three merits can sincerely change my life in a positive way.

First and foremost, being a sister draws me closer to God. To live a religious life, I would go through religious vows, which are sacred promises between God and me. The vows involve poverty, chastity, and obedience to God. By going through the holy vows, I connect to God in a deeper and more profound way. As a sister, I would be spending that the majority of my time in quiet and isolated religious orders, which gives me enough time to think things through. As God's unconditional love and grace surround me, I would reflect on what I have done in return for Him. Life in the religious order will be poor and simple, and yet it will remind me how Jesus the Son of God died out of pure love for us. Jesus suffered from great physical and spiritual agony on the cross. But he never regretted because he sacrificed for the welfare of his people. His sacred spirit illustrates God's message as Jesus is the physical incarnate of our Father in Heaven. Being in the religious order would exempt me from worldly desires so that I can focus on embarking on the spiritual journey with God. The religious vows are not the end of any ordinary life. Instead, it is the beginning of a fuller, richer, and more extraordinary life. By fully committing myself to the Church, I can be better servants of God who is lucky enough to have ongoing communications with the beloved God.

Secondly, becoming a sister means living a life full of joy and purposes. Religious life is certainly full of prayers. Prayer is a significant aspect of religious life. It is through prayer that the religious renew and deepen the experience of God in their lives. Prayer within a religious community takes many forms. It can be individual, through the celebration of the Eucharist, or within the context of a liturgical service, or in meditation, to name a few. It is through prayers that I can feel the strength and power, and tenderness of God, and pursue the eternal happiness that He wants me to possess. Mother Teresa experienced God's calls so that she was enlightened and aspire to serve others. I would like to receive God's calling as well. There are numerous controversies as to what a vocation means. In my opinion, it takes on the most literal interpretation that by devoting our lives to the Church we fulfill God's ultimate wish. If I become a sister, I will be glad to be away from materialistic and worldly worries in the modern world where consumerisms prevail. In religious orders, there are no evil competition, no provocative message, and no disrespect for God. The only thing present is the pure and devout hearts that are always sincere. I believe that it would be great to get along and make friends with other sisters as they are the sincere individuals who will never harm you. The life there will be free of evilness as we are all children of God, and are therefore true loving sisters of one another. I cannot imagine how amazing it would be to live in such a carefree and easygoing atmosphere.

What is more, I am excited to become the lifelong soulmates with the other sisters as they can best understand my feelings. Together, we serve our Father and accomplish the tasks He wants us to fulfill. We all know what we are going for and we work hard to achieve it. Is not this way of living amazing? I would fell in love with a life full of happiness and meaning. Last but not least, being a sister gives me the golden opportunity to help those in need through my personal effort. My biggest role model in saint Mother Teresa. As the founder of the religious order called the Missionaries of Charity, she was an excellent woman committed to helping the people in poverty. She was considered one of the greatest humanitarians in the 20th century. Mother Teresa had determined faith in Jesus Christ and tried to be the face of Jesus by being generous and compassionate to others. I want to become a person with high moral disciplines like her. Being a sister is an excellent way of living a life instead of merely a career. If I have the chance to work for the religious orders, I aspire to follow Mother Teresa's principles and try my best to contribute to the communities.

A religious vocation grants me the opportunity to serve my community and all my brothers and sisters in need. Devoting to the welfare of global citizens is the best way to thank Jesus' loving sacrifice on the cross. To be honest, although I think that being a sister is a remarkably excellent and worthy thing to do, I do not see myself in that path at least for now. If my view towards marriage and procreation changes in the future, then it would make it very likely for me to become a sister. My single biggest challenge to it is that I cannot give up my plan for life. I have always aspired to be a doctor since I was little. I am fond of science courses and find biology exceptionally intriguing. I have decided and still believe that the medical field is where I am going. Additionally, among single life, married life, and religious life, I pick married life. I love children and desire to have mine sometime in the future. Therefore, I am not able to give up my scheduled plan for life because of my inadequate greediness. I want to live an ordinary life and I am not courageous enough to give up worldly benefits. However, I do think that a religious life is meaningful and the priests and the sisters are admirable individuals that should be respected.
