Organisations are adopting differing management tools and tactics to deal with the challenge of managing violence at the workplace. Managing therein calls for finding ways to prevent the disruption caused by workplace violence to adversely affect the productivity of the workplace.
One of the key management practices in the lieu of prevention of workplace violence is using the team work approach. Team work approach calls for developing groups of people and giving them training in groups to allow them to bridge communication gaps between them and amongst their superiors to identify reasons for discrepancies that may lead to conflicts and violence in the near future. Group therapy is undertaken as well as training to allow people to work better with their co-workers with minimum disruptions and conflicts caused by differences and their inabilities to cope with working with others in the organisation (Fischer, et al., 2008).
Team work approach allows reducing the work place violence which threatens the productivity of the workplace. Violence occurs as the result of social interaction in which differing interests and viewpoints lead to conflict. Using team and groups discussions allows finding out what problems are being faced by the individuals in the company. Some of the causes include management behaviour, relationships with co-workers, feelings of inequality, culture of gender biasness, feeling of unfair treatment amongst employees against their superiors, unfair compensation, etc (Fischer, et al., 2008).
Organisations nowadays apply team work tools and tactics to respond to the consequences posed by workplace violence and bring in people to discuss their matters after conflicts. However, what they should be really looking at is how they can prevent it. More than often, the reasons and causes which give way to workplace violence stems from the meso environment of the organisation. On the other and team work, post violence or beforehand is time consuming and as an additional training intervention produces disruptions in the normalcy of the workplace environment.
