South Africa is a country with a lot of diversity in cultures and traditions and was able to escape colonialism. Racial boundary has always existed among the different groups. The colonial rule was created with the idea that Europeans in the colonial were of higher level than the native people. This, therefore, created legal and social taxonomies which chose who could and couldn’t get association to the leading group and who could be a resident or a subject. So that they could keep economic, political and social dominance, the Europeans foreigners established a social code dominated by race. Racial formation is the process by which racial categories are created, occupied, changed, and destroyed (Omi & Winant, 1994).

Saul Dubow stated that eugenics theory was present in South Africa shortly after the First World War (Dubow S). Professor Fantham stated that the great threat facing South Africa was the deterioration of the white race. He believed that heredity was the basis of good offspring and that the development of a eugenics awareness among South African white communities was vibrant for the development of the white race and that within the white community people with marked hereditary flaws must be separated. Professor Johann Blumenbach invented the idea that people from Europe originate from one race and according to him Europeans held the highest racial type within the human species. Joseph-Arthur Comte de Gobineau asserted that it is a historical fact that all civilisations are resulting from the white race (Sutton G, 2007). Charles Darwin a British naturalist published Origin of Species in 1859, which stated that individual’s ability to survive and reproduce was dependent on a natural selection of inherited variations. Charles saw black people as inferior in the hierarchy of human existence and predicted that black people would become extinct after a period (Darwin C, 1859). The science eugenics was developed as a derivative of Darwinian Theory. In the early 1880s Sir Francis Galton invented the term’s meaning “well-born”. Galton stated that biologically inherited leadership qualities determined the social status of the British ruling class.

Racial dictatorship, non-Europeans were not allowed to participate in politics (Omi & Winant, 1994). The study of eugenics provided the product for racism which emphasised the supposed biological dangers of “race mixing” and termed it miscegenation by the early 19th century. By 19th century it was the period when scientific racism was regarded normal. “Sociology, anthropology, biology, psychology and medicine became instruments used to prove the inferiority of various race groups in comparison to the white race” (Montagu, A. 1950). Racism the discrimination of people from a different race as yours. The racialised approach by eugenics is fixed in social thoughts rather than reason or fact. Male white supremacy was backed by creating a scientific model. Intersectionality which is the interconnectedness of social categories such as race and gender, regarded as created overlapping and independent systems of discrimination.
