San Vicente Clinic Review

The clinical site that I visited was San Vicente Clinic, also know as Centro San Vicente or San Vicente Family Health Center. San Vicente Clinic is still up and running well after first opening its doors in 1988. There are three community clinics in our local city which are: the Alameda Clinic, San Elizario Clinic, and the Pebble Hills Clinic. There is another program available to the homeless in El Paso which is the San Vicente Healthcare for the Homeless Program opportunity center, this program is located on Myrtle Ave.

The clinic I attended myself, was the Alameda clinic. San Vincente Clinics are family friendly health care sites in which you can attend for a variety of healthcare needs such as: receiving treatment for an illness/disease or taking prevention measures and maintaining a healthy state of mind and/or body. Upon entering the facility, I found that the staff was helpful toward the patients and offered consideration to those in need. The facility is bi-lingual friendly and offers services in English or Spanish which fit the language population here in El Paso. The welcoming environment and cleanly facility provided an atmosphere where the clients are able feel comfortable and taken care of without fear of judgement or having to worry about outrageous medical costs. San Vicente clinic also provides appropriate medical care to those in need regardless of whether or not they have the ability to pay for the services.

As a local El Paso an without health insurance, I believe that this clinic is a great asset to our community and can be very beneficial to someone without insurance like myself, and especially to those in El Paso who desperately need medical care but cannot afford private insurance. I asked about their process to become a patient and they claimed that the way San Vicente works is, they first ask you to apply with a registrar. Upon meeting with the registrar to fill out the application, you have to also provide them with any necessary documents that they might need such as proof of health insurance (if applicable), proof of income, a utility bill, and family demographics. After receiving all the important information that the client provides, then the registrar goes over all the services that the client may qualify for and depending on what services are needed, will determine how much the client is going to be paying and how they are going to be paying.

One of the main goals of theirs is to provide the lower income community with access to affordable health care while still providing accredited services. The services that are offered by this clinic are pretty much any service that you would need in medical care. They have services for basic health care such as wellness exams and treatments of other disease processes, they have services for dental as well for anywhere from exams or checkups to any surgery orally that may be medically necessary. They also offer therapy and psychiatric services not only for adults, but for children and families as a whole as well.

Since they are family based clinics, the physicians that are available are more than qualified in their aspects of care and do a lot for the residents of the community and surrounding areas. There are other specialty services that they provide to the public such as obstetrics and gynecology which provides health care to women who have Medicaid or are not able to qualify for Medicaid but need affordable care in women’s services. They also offer discounts and financial aids with medications and stress the importance of the diabetic population in our local city and self-care for those who do have diabetes and need to proper services to maintain a healthier lifestyle. I would definitely recommend these clinics to those who do not have health insurance. It is a crucial part of life to make sure that yourself and your family are healthy and these clinics are one of the best ways to provide that opportunity for low income El Paso and surrounding residents.
