Finding a Balance in Gun Ownership and Gun Control

When there are many acts of violence due to firearms, it leaves Americans having different opinions about guns. America definitely should have gun laws that can help protect people. Also, it is a right that American’s can own a gun. America should have a healthy balance of gun laws that can allow the right people to own a gun. We do not want mentally unstable people getting a gun, because that can lead to harm our society. Or, like the 2-year –old that got a hold of a gun and accidentally shot himself in Utah. People can be careless with their guns, which leads to numerous accidents. Many people want to own guns, so they can protect themselves in times of need. America needs to find the middle ground to make people happy and to solve this issue. We need to find a way to let people still have guns, but not the people who will abuse it. I think that our gun laws in America can be changed to help make our society safer.

Numerous people in America are torn on rather to have guns or not. I personally, have a gun in my home. I feel that it is important to have a gun, because if any harm happens, you can protect yourself and your family. Additionally, my family owns a couple of guns, but we do not use them every day. We keep them in a safe place away from other children and not just laying out in the open. Sadly, our society is becoming more violent, and it has led to people wanting a way to protect themselves. Guns are not necessarily always used for violence or a way of protection. My family goes deer hunting with guns or practice target shooting as a way to spend time together; however, having guns gives my family a sense of comfort because there is so much violence in our society. Without guns, my house, and relationship with my family would not be the same.

Not everyone views guns the same way that my family does. Countless people have not had good experiences with guns, like my family. This has led to what our government should do to reduce gun violence in our country. The government can make it harder for people to get guns. It seems as though guns are so easy to end up in the wrong person’s hand. There should be a way that the government has more requirements for owning a gun. The government could add a background check before someone can purchase a firearm. Furthermore, the government should inform people that they should not leave their guns out in the open or easily accessible to everyone. Another way the government can help reduce violence is raising the age to buy guns. If the age restriction was older, then it would not always end up in the hands of younger people who have more wisdom on how to use it. The government could also ban assault guns, but keep the other guns. Assault guns have played a huge role in gun violence in our society, and banning them can help lower the risk of gun violence. There definitely needs to be a change in our gun laws to help reduce gun violence in our country. The government needs to find a healthy balance to keep guns, but also lower violence as well.
