My Motivation to Become a Software Engineer

My interest in Computers started long back when I was in 6th grade and a new course, ‘Computer Fundamentals’, was introduced to my curriculum. It started with ‘what is mouse’ and ‘what is windows’ but the seeds of inquisitiveness and interest in the field were already sown. Since then, given a chance I’ve opted for nothing, but Computer Studies, as my favourite subject.

My first encounter with coding started during the six months break, after my grade 10 exams. I started with C language learning the basics of structural programming and even built an app called ‘Hotel management. It was a console-based application which took user data as input and stored it in a file-system. Pursuing computers since then, it looks like a cake walk today but it was a definitely a herculean task back then. My peers were still struggling with their future plans and I had already given my heart and soul to computer sciences.

Now, when I look back and see, I can clearly connect the dots from being a technology enthusiast to a professional Software Engineer. Technology has never ceased to amaze me with its applications. The advancement in Human-machine interaction and AI, from ' black and white screens‘ to 'Amazon Alexa’, we have a come a long way and growing my age with this advancement has multiplied my interest in the field manyfold.

Having a prior work experience and keen interest in Data, I feel this is the right time to apply for the Master's course at this prestigious college particularly in data engineering and application development. I am keen on amplifying my understanding and gaining an in-depth knowledge of core computer subjects and technical skills that would help me contribute immensely to this field. I wish to see myself as a highly skilled software expert who can understand the business models and designs, architect as well as code them.

I carry a solid experience in Data warehousing, creating ETL processes and do software development. I have worked on databases, Rest API’s with Java, Javascript for UI development and carry a solid understanding of all the three layers (Front-End, Back-End and Middleware) of Software Application. I have already started my journey of Data Scientist/Engineer by learning python specific libraries such as 'Pandas' and ‘Numpy’ used for wrangling data. The latest trends of the domain have been my breakfast each day and further studies would definitely add an immense value to pursue my professional goals.

During my course of study, I would like to carry out research in the field of data analytics and gain more work experience with internships and learn German Corporate work culture. It would be an honour for me to utilise my skills and do research under a professor, because of the reason that it will introduce me to a new platform of creating new ideas and being innovative. Moreover, it will surely help me to explore my potential of being a researcher.

I always set short-term goals in my life and try to achieve them within the scheduled time, and never stops myself to dream big in life, ‘future belongs to those who believes in the beauty of their dreams’ is the principle that I always follow. I hope the admission committee shares my enthusiasm and will provide me the admission. I look forward to be a part of RWTH Aachen University in the coming summer.
