Statement of Purpose (master of Science in Business )

I am an Engineering graduate with major in Biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technological University, one of the top universities in India. Few significant courses I studied were Calculus, Engineering statistics, Programming, Operating systems and Pearl programming. After my graduation I worked for Infosys technologies as Quality Analyst for more than 6 years, where I got to work from global locations like Netherlands for client ABN AMRO Bank and in Minneapolis MN for client Ameriprise Financial.

During my professional career as a Quality Analyst, I was exposed to a wealth of data such as customer profiles, transaction details, customer usage patterns etc., available with Financial Service providers. With more and more data and its use in making important decision in business, I started developing tremendous interest in business analytics. I learned how data analytics can help to improve business profits and critical business decisions.

With millions of customers and their transactions, Banking and financial services are sitting on wealth of information and this data is growing exponentially every day. As this information contains both structured and unstructured data, it is required to use tools for Big data analysis. This will provide a better insight on the current market trends for faster decision making and help to be competitive among banks and financial institutions. This made me realize that Data analytics is a major force to drive business and hence I want to pursue my Masters in Business Analytics to get an in-depth knowledge and use this knowledge to grow as a Data strategist.

UNT’s Master of Science with a major in Business Analytics concentrating on business intelligence and business analytics fields will enhance my technical and management skills and is best suited for my long-term career aspirations. Modules offered in the course are very well designed and are of my interest. Big Data Analytics module dealing with topics like conventional data warehousing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics for unstructured data will help me gain knowledge on the software tools which can be used for Banking services.

Data mining module emphasizing on extracting information from large databases and designing data-based decision support systems, which will help me in analyzing the trends in Banking services i.e. What services and benefits would current customers likely desire, what patterns in credit transactions lead to fraud, what is the profile of a high-risk borrower.

Enterprise Applications of Business Intelligence module teaching the concepts, methodologies and tools to efficiently and effectively implement business intelligence endeavors will enable me as a data scientist to generate, aggregate, analyze and visualize data to help business make better management decisions. Information Systems Development and Foundations of Database Management modules will reinforce my knowledge of System design process & Database management which include systems planning, requirements analysis, user interface design, data design, process design, system testing and analysis, design, development and implementation of database-oriented file organizations in business applications.

Being a resident of Denton, UNT is my first choice and its Master of Science in Business analytics will be stepping stone for me to grow in field of Data and Business analytics. I am intrigued by the data science's focus on predictive analytics and the ways it helps investigate the unknown by conducting experiments and forming hypothesis. I firmly believe that advancing my education, coupled with my work experience will allow me to discover something that has not been known before.
