Tobacco Advertisers aim to make financial profits by selling better quality cigarettes. Newport cigarettes build customers’ relationship to manipulate them into buying their products. Moreover, Newport cigarette is a prominent company and has been around since the late 1950s by appealing to active and young American smokers. This advertisement exhibited entertainment, less concerns, and worry-free environment for smokers of Newport cigarettes. The models within this advertisement seem to be appealing to the upper social economic class to attract the target audience’s attention. It also seems to portray to a specific targeted audience, who are occasional smokers. The advertisement has four young adults, two females and two males. The models are represented having a good time because they are able to afford purchase a limo that attracts the targeted that young recreational smokers. Newport cigarette’s ad promotes the enthusiasm and pleasure image to convince the consumers’ to buy Newport cigarettes. Therefore, the cigarette corporations acknowledge that the goal is to influence the consumers to become the people modeled through the ad. Furthermore, pathos is primarily used in order to influence the target audience. The Newport cigarette ad creates deception in its utilization of ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade the audience in regards to purchasing by showcasing a false analogy and contradicting claims of a “pleasure payday” when smoking Newport cigarettes.

The Revlon ad employs the appeal of ethos to consumers to buy their cigarettes by developing credibility in the tobacco industry. Newport cigarette maintains smokers’ trust and has perpetuated legitimacy by promoting a satisfying smoking environment. Furthermore, selling unique cigarettes for decades has allowed Newport to develop authentic brand relationship potential smokers and corporation. In this case, the cigarette corporations use sociological theory to analyze social tendencies. Newport ad uses deceptive strategies portray images of a glamorous party lifestyle including a pleasant environment. For example, models look elegant and seem like they are living in an elite class. Of course, the Newport cigarette influence the smokers to aim look for splendid social environment and VIP treatment. However, this ad represents confident people who are the centers of attention. Indeed, this ad attempt convinces smokers in desiring an indulgent environment.

Newport cigarettes fabricate various appeal of pathos by targeting the smokers’ interpretation of an ideal environment. The Newport cigarette advertisement acknowledges that the notion that smoking may help reduce anxiety or makes them feel calmer. Newport cigarettes aim to sell their products since the cigarette corporations comprehend how the smokers desire to live vicariously through their habit of copying other people’s actions. Hence, they have their own strategies to deceive potential smokers to create an upbeat environment. This ad indicated the appeals of pathos to capture the consumers’ attention to buy Newport cigarettes product in order to win a “50,000” prize which displayed the comment of “Go V.I.P.” and “Newport pleasure payday.” The advertiser’s statement is to persuade the audience to try to gain a financial profit in order to claim the prize. For example, the Newport corporation sells ten dollars per pack times five hundred thousand people- that’s three point 5 millions of dollar in profits and they monopolize the consumers by giving away “five Lucky winners $50,000 each” to continue build better representations by showing millions of Newport cigarettes advertisement. There is another example that some people are nonsmokers still purchases Newport cigarette to chance to be a winner. In the image, the color of green symbolizes relaxation and quite possibly represents wealth. The yellow outline and fonts shows a Las Vegas sign representing a place to combine pleasure and hardcore party environments. Consumers are affected to by “GO V.I.P” to win potential money and can feel that they own everything.

This advertisement also uses logos to mislead the consumers about a desirable image associated with smoking. For instance, the advertisement claims that smoking cigarette allows consumers to find alternative ways to find a peaceful atmosphere, and that’s what they have been recapitulating different generation for decades. The Newport cigarettes illustrate the image of an extravagant scene and the limo represents spending money at parties yet Newport cigarettes create a logical fallacy of slippery slope by stating “GO V.I.P” since the potential smokers are not guaranteed to become V.I.P. there is also a non sequitur fallacy, which is “pleasure payday.” Smoking Newport cigarettes does not assured “pleasure payday.” This ad represents propaganda which purposely leaves information out vaguely because this model is concealing her cigarette as well as the advertisement develops a logical fallacy. The advertiser’s goal is to attract potential smokers by making them feel popular; this is an example of ad populism because smoking Newport cigarettes will not make the targeted audiences more attractive or popular.

Newport uses techniques to advertise by claiming “GO V.I.P” in order to catch the customer’s attention to buy their products in order to win this opportunity of $50,000. However, most critics would not agree since this ad deceives potential smokers with misconceptions by the mainstream media. The potential smokers purchase Newport cigarette in order to win this prize. Finally, the cigarettes may cause lung cancer or other health issues. The “five lucky winners who win $50,000” may receive a prize that may not be enough money to cover medical expenses.
