The Tea Act 1773, was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain, that allowed the British East India Company to sell tea from China in American colonies without paying taxes apart from those imposed by the Townshend Acts. Also, the Americans were protesting against the perceived monopoly of the East India Company.
The Boston Tea Party was an American political and mercantile protest that occurred on December 16, 1773, at Griffin’s Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists was angry for imposing “taxation without representation” by Britain. They dumped 342 chests of tea, valued at £18,000 and imported by the British East India Company into the Boston harbor.
The Boston Tea Party was an important event in the growth of the American Revolution. In retribution, British Parliament passed the Coercive Acts, known in the colonies as the Intolerable Acts.
