Running Dictation is a game of dictation method that can be used for teaching English within any level such as speaking, writing, reading, listening. Yet, here it’s used by the writer as game for helping teacher in teaching vocabulary.
By the reason the writer wants to increase students’ vocabulary mastery. From the teachers’ point of view, dictations can be done with any level, then depending on the text or sentence used, so graded for multi-level class. Furthermore, running dictation game needs a preparation well to do that. In teaching vocabulary, by implementing running dictation game teacher should make sentences or texts based on collocation material. Then teacher cuts the sentences or text become piece of paper, and the sentences or texts should be disseminated in the class room, but here the writer choosesto putthe sentences on the table where runners must run to it. Thus, by using running dictation game, the students more have fun, interesting, enjoyable, and active in learning process.
Furthermore,there are several procedures in implementing of running dictation game in teaching vocabulary, those are:
a) Runner
A runner has to run to take the sentences on the table that made by teacher. After that, he or she has to read it for two minutes loudly, and then memorizing it for two minutes and the runner returnsto the writer to convey the sentences for one minute.
b) Writer
The writer has to write down the sentence. After that, the writer speaks what he or she wrote. Then the teacher corrects it. Additionally, the teacher asks to each groups to work together to find the meaning of the sentences that wrote by a writer. Moreover, the students must write the vocabulary and the meaning of the sentences.
c) Every group plays the game alternately.
d) The teacher confirms the students’ work by showing the right and complete sentences on a slide in front of the class or by distributing the sentences to each group so that they can correct it.
e) The teacher provides exercises in order to the students remember all the words for vocabulary.
f) The winner group is group that finishes first although we need to check for mistakes.Based on the statement above, the writer concludes that by using running dictation game in teaching and learning process can increase students’ vocabulary mastery.
