The appeal to oppose, stop and disengage from the cruel, detrimental and unnecessary animal testing. Did you know that the most commonly used cosmetics, hair products, and other beauty items used on a daily basis (pause)? As evidence has shown are a factor to hundreds of thousands of innocent animals becoming blind?Do you know that even the toothpaste, the shampoo and the soap we use everyday have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent animals? If your answer is 'No', now is the time for all of us to know it.
To produce a safe product for us, numerous animals have died in laboratories. To ensure our health, numerous animals have been tortured in laboratories. To let us stay away from diseases, numerous animals have gone through the unbearable aches and pains in laboratories. Does this sound like something we should do to them? Why is an animal less than a human? Do they not feel pain the same way we do? For example, there is a test known as the Draize eye test. It is used by companies that sell shampoos and cosmetics. So, they use rabbits or other animals and they incapacitate them. They also clip their eyelids open. Sometimes for multiple days so that they cannot blink away the product being tested.
I think we need to rethink about the products we buy and if they use animal testing, we need to boycott these products! Martin Luther King once said, “One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of the other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them.” Why animal testing is cruel and inhumane, that animals are very different from human beings so they make poor test subjects, and drugs that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe. First and foremost animal testing is cruel and inhumane is, According to Humane Society, animals used in experiments are commonly a subject that is forced to feeding, inhalation, food and water deprivation, and prolonged periods of physical restraints.
Some animals are burned and others are wounded to study the healing process and the effects of its remedies. Sometimes, these animals may be killed by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, and many other means. Additionally animal testing should be banned or stopped is because animals are very different from human beings so they make poor test subjects. The anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings.
Paul Furlong, Professor of Clinical Neuroimaging at Aston University (UK), states that "it's very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we're trying to achieve in the human." Thomas Hartung, Professor of evidence-based toxicology at Johns Hopkins University, argues for alternatives to animal testing because "we are not 70 kg rats."
Nevertheless animal testing should be stopped. The 1950s sleeping pill thalidomide, which caused 10,000 babies to be born with severe deformities, was tested on animals prior to its commercial release. Later tests on pregnant mice, rats, guinea pigs, cats, and hamsters did not result in birth defects unless the drug was administered at extremely high doses. Animal tests on the arthritis drug Vioxx showed that it had a protective effect on the hearts of mice, yet the drug went on to cause more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before being pulled from the market.
