The World War Ii in History and Its Consequences

World War II began in 1939 and ended in 1945. This war in particular was the biggest armed battle in human history. World War II consisted over six continents and took place in all the world’s oceans. The war created an event that was essential to the deaths of approximately “50 million military and civilian deaths, including those of 6 million Jews” (Robinson pg. 1). World War II would change the world as we knew it, and caused many other events to take course. Among its leading results were the beginning of the “nuclear era, increased pressure to decolonize the Third World, and the advent of the Cold War” (Robinson). World War II was the birth of ridding off America’s isolation from the rest of the world. Until up to WWII, America was known as the “Sleeping Giant”. Another phenomenon that manifested after WWII was the creation of the United Nations. In the Untied States, while the men went over seas to fight, the women stayed in the industries to work. In the long run the war helped end the Great Depression. On the eastern side of the planet, “African Americans made important progress towards accomplishing their political, economic and social rights” (Robinson).

The crux of World War II, which finally pushed Germany, Japan, and Italy (the Axis) against the Untied States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union (the Allies), rests in the “militaristic ideologies and expansionist polices of Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan” (Robinson pg. 1). The reality was that the Axis would have the upper hand, the Europeans were not ready for such an aggressive attack, and United States was in isolation for a long time.

World War II initially began with Nazi Germany’s attack on Poland in September 1939, however, the United States did not enter the war until December 7, 1941 after the bombing of the “American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii caused by the Japanese” (Robinson pg.1). Franklin Roosevelt knew that the United States was indeed going to end up in the war, so Franklin planned for the worse. “In November 1939, Franklin persuaded Congress to repeal the arms embargo provisions of the neutrality law so that arms could be sold to France and Britain” (Robinson pg. 1). On June 1940, the date in which France was completely occupied by the German forces, Franklin forced for a major military growth and began supplying aid in the form of Lend-Lease to Britain. It was a stand off against the Axis powers while Britain was cornered, by themselves. “America, FDR declared, must become ‘the great arsenal of democracy.’”(Robinson pg. 1). After which, when FDR figured out a way into get into the war, America started to create hundreds of thousands of tanks, airplanes, and ships. Later, on June 1941 the Soviet Union joined the ally forces when attacked by Germany. Ally forces were now gaining ground. America’s military leaders showed tremendous courage along with brilliance, among these famous general were, "General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who planned and led the attack against the Nazis in Western Europe (D-Day), and General Douglas MacArthur and Fleet Admiral Chest Nimitz, who led the Allied effort in the Pacific, also contributed to the Allied victory” (Robinson pg. 1).

These are a list of WWII battles that were essential for the success of the United States and the ally forces. They included the Battle of Midway (1942), the invasion of Italy (1943), the Allied invasion of France (1944), the battle of Leyte Gulf (19443) and the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan (1945). The war ended with the Axis power’s absolute surrender in 1945.
