The Downtown Eastside Community of People

The Downtown East side is a community of people those who use drugs and do other illegal social activities to survive or to support drugs addictions. The population of society is estimated around 6000 -8000, whereas most of them are known as first nations people who are nastiest effected by the critical problems. There are many currently issues such as the consumption of high-level addicted drugs are increasing for example crack cocaine, fentanyl etc, the prostitution for the small amount of money is going there for getting some doses of drugs, even they do not have enough money for staying in the rental house because of the high rent rates, they are not affordable in the Vancouver, that’s why they are homeless.

Moreover, In the fall 2013, “crisis” Mayor Gregor Robertson and then-police chief Jim Chu said due to effected by personal problems the counting of people who becoming mental illness/ mental health issues also mounting in the downtown east side. Now the situation of Eastern side the downtown is becoming more uncontrollable, the activities like prostitution, gang wars, and unexpected robberies and murdered, to make them better there are some initials and effected stages, where government should do work for them and societies betterment on the behalf of the suggestions in the following ways.

Homelessness

I have seen in the downtown east side that most of the people live in the streets and use footpath to sleep at night. They live in poor conditions of health and even lack of income to have their own persona l physical shelter. For example, It is reported in the studies of Paulsen, Monte(29 may,2007) reflects that single-room occupancy(SRO) in Vancouver, provides a single room service without personal kitchen and bathroom and even its condition is pretty bad, no facilities at all, bedbugs, not enough space, fire code violation that’s why they go out to public space where they involve in the drug crimes, so government should invest on such kind of motels or physical shelter places to make them better where they live and available all the facilities that they need in a house.

Poverty

Poverty is one of the major issues for the people of downtown east side region. It is also well known by all that to support drugs they try shortcuts to earn money through informal ways. For example, criminal activities, sex work etc. Apart from it they don’t have job options due to their criminal records, so federations and governments must available some work for them to earn money for their survival, which means the crime for money could be reduced to some degree, so they can’t able to indulge in such activities due lack of money.

Mental Illness

Many newspapers and studies of the different organizations revealed in the earlier surveys that half of the propotions of all the crimes in the eastern side of downtown is occurred by the mental illness, which shows that mental illness is concern as major reason of the crimes. According to me there should be some organizations it doesn’t matter either private or government those which can take steps to control stress of people who are suffering from issues like personal health, by the helping from such kind of associations they can overcome from their indications, which will result less crime rates in the east side of the downtown.

Safety & Security

In the sense of safety and security, it is seen in the in eastern side of the downtown that amblers be afraid to cross the streets lonely, because it is noticed that 10% of injuries happen with the walkers in Vancouver. To control crime against the walkers, government should impose more cops nearby to look after the activities of offenders against the pedestrians and punish them or government can take them all in different places from the downtown east side.

Rehabilitition Centers

This is a little bit different step apart from all stated above stages, in this stage, there can be two benefit that could be measured ahead. For instance, government or local civilians must come ahead to help by beginning the rehabilitation centre, where all drug addicted people must be taken and giving them proper treatments to become addict free, which means the level of the drug consumption will decline and second one is crime rates for drugs consumption will automatically deducted.
